On this #HumanRightsDay, I am exposing #AbleistAIIMS, their highly ableist culture & shocking plagiarised report. The genesis is my RTI exposing how AIIMS deliberately denied #DocsWithDisabilities postgrad seats in AIIMS for the last eight exams whereas JIPMER, PGI embraced. 1/ RTI filed by Dr Singh and subsequent media report https://ti
Dr Sanjay Wadhwa (PMR) & his same team of controversial non-disabled members framed guidelines for #DocsWithDisabilities in PG at AIIMS, Delhi. I wonder if this is the most ableist document ever published in the history of #MedEd in India? #AbleistAIIMS
aiimsexams.ac.in/pdf/Final_PWBD… 2/
Wadhwa Committee’s terribly framed report w/ ableist language self-proclaims, “What is proposed by Experts here is quite unique, perhaps revolutionary, w/ far-reaching consequences.” Yes, 30% of this report is plagiarised w/ negative portion carefully chosen to blame disabled 3/
Sample this,“Medical subjects in general are NOT in Braille or Audio-Books forms… One must accept the fact that ‘everyone cannot do everything’. Wadhwa Committee has heavily plagiarised from @GMCUK’s #WelcomedAndValued report supporting disabled learners in #MedEd & practice 4/
They used the @gmcuk's #WelcomedAndValued selectively to suit their agenda omitting critical legal mandate also in our #RPDA2016. They also used selectively an old US case limiting disabled docs suitable only in 20/37 specialties. Not a single Disabled Doc in this Committee 5/
They selectively plagiarised an article by highlighting only the barriers to justify their decision to bar disabled docs. The article hails inclusion, & I’am quoted, “When people see #DocsWithDisabilities excelling, the biases/prejudices prevalent in society will disappear” 6/ Selective text copied from this media report https://neenabh
Wadhwa Report selectively quoted a court case but has no clue about the landmark judgment by Justice DYC on #ReasonableAccommodation which counters their member Dr Radhika Tandon’s ableist viewpoints. These same people framed @NMC_IND guidelines barring disabled candidates. 7/ The above response has been countered by Hon’ble SC judgem
In a case in SC, the counsel contended that "Dr Sanjay Wadhwa, AIIMS expert, while holding that persons with disabilities are not eligible to pursue #MedEd has given 'contrary opinions' on the same issue and that too not once but THRICE'. #AbleistAIIMS 8/

Nursing education continues to be sidelined in HPE, & it's time we address the blatant #ableism within the system. A massive thank you to the @NONDORG for standing up for aspiring #NursesWithDisabilities in 🇮🇳. Thank you @timesofindia for raising our voices! A thread🧵 1/ SCREENSHOT OF TOI NEWS
While examples like Krishna, Meeta & Lokesh in TOI story 👇 show that #NursesWithDisabilities can indeed work in hospitals & may, in fact, show more understanding to patients, hurdles to a nursing career have only increased for other disabled aspirants. 2/

@DrPankajPrasad2 @KanishkAIIMS Recently, a girl with hand impairment, whose disability level was 51%, was not allowed to join a BSc Nursing course because the Indian Nursing Council (INC) does not let anyone with a disability level above 50% take admission in nursing courses 3/ #NursesWithDisabilities #ABLEISM Why do we need nurses with disabilities? Why @DwDAoC & @ATHI_Tweet wrote to @Drvirendrakum13 Union Minister @MSJEGOI @socialpwds on the new @NMC_IND guidelines?

He is the Chairperson of the Central Advisory Board on Disability under #RPDA2016 as well as the National Council for Transgender Persons under the #TPA2019
1/ Today's the hindu article covering the NMC exxclusion on disability and trans issue. Link: https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/experts-say-nmcs-revised-cbme-guideline-no-better-demand-another-round-of-review-and-correction/article68639017.ece
The NMC's controversial #CBME2024 released on 31 Aug, was covered in editorials by major news agencies, discussed on prime-time shows as well as labelled an International embarrassment by foreign media forcing NMC to withdraw it on the Teachers day 2/
A senior member of the UGMB (@NMC_IND) told @ThePrintIndia , “There was some oversight on our part, & we deleted certain parts (related to disability competencies) from the 2019 guidelines which we should not have deleted" 3/ @dryogendermalik theprint.in/health/nmcs-u-…

🚨 Urgent Request for Correction of Misinformation in the recently uploaded Anganwadi Protocol for Children w/ Disabilities by the @MinistryWCD @Annapurna4BJP @SThakuroffice developed with @socialpwds & @MoHFW_INDIA.

It contains several inaccuracies 🧵1/

📝While the protocol, developed with DEPD & MoHFW, aims to improve disability intervention through early screening, community inclusion & referral support, it contains significant inaccuracies that could lead misinformed screening & M/m of disabilities. #DisabilityAwareness 2/ Email to the three ministeries involved
❗️ Incorrect Information on Disabilities ❗️

The protocol misrepresents the symptoms of thalassemia, listing "unexplained & excessive bleeding"—a symptom of #hemophilia, NOT #thalassemia.
Correct information is vital for accurate screenings. #DisabilityAwareness #HealthPolicy 3/ Page 9 of the protocol showing incorrect info attributed in blood disorders

On #IDPD2018, @_PVRCinemas rolled out its ‘Accessible Cinema Program’ with CEO Gautam Dutta claiming that #A11y is embedded into how they think, design & build cinema. @SanjeevBijli vowed cinema to be an inclusive experience. Reality ✅ #DisabilityDiscrimination & #PatheticPVR 1/
My ♿️-user colleague & other friends booked wheelchair-accessible seats shown online as C9,C10 on @bookmyshow vide ID:WLDGLQ6 for 2:05 pm PVR, EDM, GZB show on 25.5.22. When they reached @PicturesPVR , staff proclaimed we are ♿️ accessible. 2/ #PatheticPVR
This is what they offered on the name of ♿️ accessible seat - a regular one. When asked how she will reach there? They offered a makeshift ramp & said with pride, ‘we will lift’. She refused, & had to watch the film in front row, away from her friends. 3/ #PatheticPVR @LivePvr Seating arrangement shoring...A metallic foldable ramp ne...App booking screenshot wron...Booking ticket
