Eponym - When something is named after a person or a place or a company, we call that name an eponym. A short but interesting thread. For instance, did you know that the word sideburns is an eponym?
1. Named after Ambrose Burnside. Let's look at some examples. He was an American railroad executive, soldier, industrialist, and politician whose distinctive facial hair inspired the word sideburns.
2. Alois Alzheimer is credited with identifying "presenile dementia," which was later named Alzheimer’s disease after him.
3. Boycott is derived from an English land agent named Captain Charles C. Boycott who treated Irish badly and so was ostracized or “boycotted” by the them.
4. Cardigan - The button-up sweater is named for James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, a British lieutenant general who led the Charge of the Light Brigade during the Crimean War. The cardigan was modeled after the knitted wool waistcoats that British officers
5. Mesmerize comes from the physician Franz Mesmer, who established a theory of energy transference between all animate and inanimate things called “animal magnetism.”
6. Nicotine, named after the French ambassador to Portugal, brought tobacco plants to France from a trip to Portugal in 1559. Originally touted for its supposed medicinal properties, the plant and later the molecule were named for Nicot.
7. Gabriel Daniel Fahrenheit was a 17th-century physicist and inventor who invented the reliable thermometers and the Fahrenheit scale.
8. Spoonerism: William Archibald Spooner - he was a British clergyman and educator, who lived from 1844 to 1930, often had to speak in public.
But he was a nervous man and his tongue frequently got tangled up. He would say for e.g."a blushing crow" when he meant "a crushing blow."
9. Nidhied: Nidhi in India means money or fund. But acutally now has got an opposite meaning. there are 2 parts to it.
Part 1 - refers to getting fooled and scammed easily.
Part 2 - refers to not accepting the reality and then actually whine about it.

#Thiruvempavai #திருவெம்பாவை Tamil Nadu has given India a lot by way of Bhakti movements from time immemorial.
A short thread based on my understanding. Today also is the day of #ArudraDarshan #Thiruvadhirai - a big festival and celebration in Kerala and TN

Paavai Genre: Paavai songs are part of an ancient tradition amongst unmarried young girls, where they would light lamps in the early mornings of Margazhi and sing songs in praise of Bhagawan Shiva or Bhagawan Krishna (or may be both).

Was away from Twitter as I was traveling for the past 3 weeks traveling and touching many parts of India. Every flight is full and hotels are functioning almost back to normalcy. A wonderful thing to see. A short thread on my experience. #flights @IndiGo6E
#vaccinationcertificate: When one flies into Guwahati, one has to show the Vaccination Certificate. Flying to Bangalore from Maharashtra, one has to have #RT_PCR test report. Thanks to GoI, this test now costs Rs. 600/- and in many places, it is free as well.
Flying into Mumbai from Bangalore, only #VaccinationCertificate is required. Flying into Hyderabad from Mumbai / Hyderabad also requires #VaccinationCertificate. Flying into Pune from Hyd

This came on WA. This is to all my friends....

In the last few years, we have heard on and off of people lost, some close and personal and some celebrities who were in their 40s and died because of doing too much to be "fit".
Unfortunately while they did look fit, six packs and all, the body was not really able to keep up on the inside with the rigor of the exercise regimen.

Sadly y'day Puneeth Rajkumar also gets added to this list. A good person gone too soon, gone too young!
In anything in life, MODERATION is the mantra. Any extreme of zero or 100 is not correct. A moderate amount of exercise, just about 20-30 minutes, eating while keeping nourishment in mind.

Ironies of democracy as done in two of the largest democracies.

Democracy was defined by Abe Lincoln as, "For the people, of the people and by the people". US amended to make it, "For the business, of the business and by the business".
The current state of democracy in India is like, "Far (away) from the people, off from the people and ...buy the people".
Legislature, Executive, Judiciary and Press were supposed to be 4 pillars of democracy. -
But all the 4 have forgotten the key enablers of Democracy: People, who are responsible in reposing faith in their elected representatives by electing them and have done a splendid job. But the latter have generally been treated like dirt and with disdain.
