So much for "trans women are trans women," eh?

Here's a New Year's Resolution: next time trans people tell us that they're dealing with a transphobic hate cult of people who *obviously* don't want them to exist, we don't take five fucking years to believe them, okay? 1/

You can't take back explaining to trans people that your mate Graham Linehan isn't transphobic, actually.

You can't take back publishing articles by his allies arguing for watchful waiting, and talk therapy, which is *always* about stopping trans people existing as trans. 2/

You can't take back publishing letters by Linehan's mates in your paper calling trans women "porn-addled autogynophiles," effectively accusing them of sexual perversion for just existing. You see how that is an attempt to stop them existing at all, now, right? 3/

You can't take back supporting your "Don't call me cis" mate as someone who doesn't have a transphobic bone in their body.

You can't take back the endless parade of cis people on TV and radio, being interviewed by other cis people, telling trans people what is best for them. 4/

You can't take back platforming Linehan's Irish friend, who said she would have been "transed" by fastrack trans healthcare if she grew up today, while trans people waited in desperation for years just for a first appointment at an inadequate GIDs clinic. 5/

You can't take back believing Linehan and his allies and their nonsensical keening about puberty blockers. They simply never wanted *any* trans healthcare to exist, for anyone, teens or adults, because they don't want trans people to exist. That has to be obvious now. 6/

You can't take back being one of those "listen to detransitioners" people. In much the same way as people who push forward women who regret having an abortion don't really care about women, Linehan and his mates don't really care about trans people or detransitioners. 7/

You can't take back believing the obvious lie that the gender critical movement were in touch with "100s" of UK detransitioners. The org they set up to "help" them was never funded, and collapsed within a year, in 2020.

You can't take back not getting it then. 8/

You can't take back believing them when they said they had trans "friends" who agreed with them. Those people were never their friends. They are the equivalent of the "gay people who don't even want marriage equality," and, increasingly, they are trying to ditch them. 9/

You can't take back calling trans people an intolerant mob because they could identify the celebrities who hated them, and you thought you knew better.

You can't take back slurring all trans people and advocates based on the actions of a few anonymous Twitter accounts. 10/

You can't take back ignoring JK Rowling promoting a woman who called trans people "blackface actors" and "men who get their sexual kicks from being treated as women," and instead portraying her as a "victim of trans activism." Linehan loves her. What does that tell you? 11/

You can't take back believing the narrative of "trans women coercing lesbians into sex," slurring all trans women as rapists in disguise, which is basically requesting other people to "do something" about trans women, as a means to make trans women afraid to go outside. 12/

You can't take back the enormous amount of money that has been wasted on trying to stop trans people existing in a legal sense, and, the money that has been given to the lawyers of wealthy gender critical people to silence criticism.

What an utter waste all of it has been. 13/

You can't take any of it back, but hopefully now that we're at the point where the gender critical movement won't even call trans women "trans women" you can accept that this was never, ever about "legitimate concerns," and amplify the concerns of trans people instead. 14/

That, to me, seems to be a much better, kinder New Year's Resolution for 2022.

This trans panic must end some day.
