🚨🚨 Covid-19 cases up 48% week on week, daily reported cases hit over 122,186 - highest in pandemic

◾️England up 48%
◾️Northern Ireland up 45%
◾️Scotland up 42%
◾️Wales up 57%

Deaths per day continue to fall but there is time lag between rising cases and deaths.
Within England the rise in cases is predominantly in younger age groups although we have seen a slight uptick among those older.

Rates for those aged 20 to 44 are the highest they have been through the pandemic.
The number of patients in hospital within England is 60% lower than this time last year.

They have been going up in the past week or so but still down on last month.

Admissions at moment highest since last winter but we may be seeing faster discharges with new variant.

The number of #Covid19 patients in hospitals in Wales has been trending down for 3 months and is 83% lower than last year

▪️ Some signs the long decline is stalling and I would not be surprised to see increases next few weeks.

▪️ The average age of patients in hospital is 74
Covid-19 cases are up 57% week on week with both the case rate per 100k and % of tests coming back positive on the rise.
In the 7 days to 24 December there were 107,187 Covid-19 tests reported with 27,341, so 25.5% came back positive.

◾️Almost have of all the identified cases were in people under the age of 30

🚨🚨 Boris Johnson - ‘We have been getting that vaccination that protects us and stops us infecting others’

FACT CHECK

➡️ Vaccines reduce the chance of catching #Covid19 & so reduce chance of infecting others but do not stop you infecting others

💥 PM speech is FALSE ❌
Information on relative chances of catching Covid depending on vaccination and prior infection sourced from ONS

Here is Boris confirming what I have written in a previous interview.

Unfortunately many wont have seen this and millions will watch his Xmas message.

🚨🚨 ‘No evidence that stopping events like ours is beneficial overall to public health, but we would argue the evidence suggests doing so does more harm that good’

💥 Angry response from Welsh Athletics and Parkrun to Welsh Government banning weekly running events

👇👇
There is no evidence to support the banning of such events, just as there is no evidence forthcoming to support what Mark Drakeford said at his press conference regarding Omicron.
To the contrary, actively encouraging exercise is more likely to reduce the risks of Covid19

🚨🚨 BBC News at 6 - Video saying 100% on Covid ward unvaccinated. Fergus Walsh then says its 4 in 5 - contradicting the video.

Contributor from Intensive Care Society says 2/3 across people they asked.

➡️ None match the published data of 48%
It may well be that on this particular ward it is 4 in 5 but for some reason the BBC put these stories out with Fergus Walsh frequently with no reference to the latest national stats.

This was him on another ward saying 4 in 5.
If the national picture is 48% then he seems unlucky to always end up on wards with 4 in 5.

🚨🚨Covid-19 cases up 53% week on week, daily reported cases hit over 119,789 for the first time today.

◾️ England up 56%
◾️ Northern Ireland up 35%
◾️ Scotland up 30%
◾️ Wales up 53%

Deaths per day continue to fall but there is time lag between rising cases and deaths
Cases are rising in every region in England - London having the fastest growth shown by the top white line on this chart.

The speed of growth had slowed down but ticked up today.

Other lines are other English regions
The large rises in England are predominantly in those aged 20 to 44 years old who are less likely to need any hospital treatment.

Evidence emerging the new #Omicron variant also less likely to result in an admission.
