Tough year.
Covid has exacerbated the cracks in the system.
The Uk gov has increasingly shown its authoritarian tendencies while trying to avoid scrutiny
So, 🙏 for being there: with your growing support, we have kept holding power to account.
1. JANUARY
We discovered Cronysm at the highest level and how the Covid pandemic has been a bonanza for some, while the country was on its knees.
5. MARCH
In partnership with @BylineTimes, we continued digging into the links between Covid firms and Conservative donors (and got retweeted by Hugh Grant on this one!)
6. With legal firm @Foxglove, we launched a challenge to the Uk government for their use of disappearing messages in handling the pandemic, a practice that we consider unlawful, as it prevents public scrutiny on public matters.
We were the first to report that #LordBrownlow, who paid £58,000 towards the cost of makeover of the #PM's Downing Street flat, had also benefited from government contracts…
9. MAY was busier than ever.
With the law firm @A__W______O , we issued a legal challenge against the suppression of crucial data on the spread of COVID new variant in schools by PM's office.
11. AND... wait for it… we had yours truly Dominic Cummings publicly condemn the secrecy and lack of transparency in the government handling of the pandemic that we had already denounced in this short film…
15. We were excited to host this live event with Line Of Duty’s Jared Mercurio, who enlightened us on the darkest aspects of institutional corruption.
Charged topic, after the publication of the damning #DanielMorganReport on cover ups in the police force
16. Oh, we also caught former Health Minister @MattHancock having a convenient memory blip and omitting some well-established facts that we had dutifully kept the receipts of… which is why @receiptkeepers is so important!
19. With @Foxglovelegal and a number of brave MPS we challenged the government for its failure to investigate potential Russian interference in Uk politics, as denounced by parliament’s Intelligence and Security Committee in their #RussiaReport.
21. JULY
After the complete lifting of Covid measures pompously named #FreedomDay, we organised an emergency international summit on the threat the UK government's Covid-19 plan posed to the world.
It was covered worldwide
This year we've uncovered crony contracts, Whitehall parties, police misbehaviour, gender inequality, dug into asylum data and much more. Here are 12 of our winter BITEs…
1. First up - our agenda-setting investigations into Covid-19 contracts revealed how the UK's outsourcing of Covid response has cost more than the GDP of 140 countries. bylinetimes.com/2021/07/12/uk-…
2. We exposed how £121.7 million increase in profits for Covid contract winners with Conservative links. bylinetimes.com/2021/10/12/121…
Babylon Health and Palantir Technologies collaborate on a data platform for digital care, with both companies also having a foothold in the Health Service, @BylineBITE and @allthecitizens can reveal. THREAD.
British private “digital-first” healthcare firm Babylon Health, which offers mobile consultations through its ‘GP at Hand’ service within the NHS, has surged in popularity during the pandemic - now with 140,000 registrations in the UK. forbes.com/sites/daviddaw…
Babylon is reported to “manage” some 350,000 lives in 16 counties, and has signed agreements with several NHS trusts via GP at Hand, effectively integrating a private firm, offering “proactive”, AI-based healthcare with day-to-day running of GP surgeries. digitalhealth.net/2020/05/third-…
🚨NEW 🚨
🎄Christmas approaching
🚀Infections rocketing
📢Scientists calling for action
😴The PM asleep at the wheel
Have we learned nothing?
Today we launch our campaign to ensure the #Covid inquiry is open, fair & robust so that we can hold this govt to account. Join us
The govt has shown contempt for truth & transparency time and again
▶️ They refused to tell us what science they were following
▶️ They withheld data
▶️ They abused emergency powers
▶️ They gave friends & donors £££s in Covid contracts
▶️ They made rules which they didn't follow
170,000 people have died. More than 1 million are living with chronic illness. It didn't need to be this way.
We're building a coalition of scientists, experts & journalists to ensure that the #Covid public inquiry gives people the answers they deserve crowdfunder.co.uk/we-demand-answ…
Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice said funerals at that time were allowed fewer people in attendance than there appeared to be in the Downing Street garden, and it was “exhausting” to see the “constant, flagrant disregard we have all been held in”. theguardian.com/world/2021/dec…
BREAKING: Government fined over PM’s Downing St. flat refurb, as Boris Johnson accused of lying to probe into the works.
The Conservative Party have been fined £17,800 by the Electoral Commission after ‘failing to accurately report a donation and keep a proper accounting record’
The Commission found that the government had failed to fully report a donation of £67,801.72 from Huntswood Associates Ltd, in October last year.
Huntswood is owned by Conservative peer, donor and former Conservative Vice Chair #LordBrownlow.
The investigation found that on October 19th, #Huntswood transferred £67,801 to the Conservatives, £15,000 of which was to cover an event, and reported in the Q4 2020 submissions, but the remaining £52,801, initially covered by the Cabinet Office, was not.
NEW: 🚨A blockbuster #PMQs today and a whole lot of facts to be checked.
Starting with the big one: was there or wasn’t there a #ChristmasParty?!?
An unmissable fact check from @Femi_Sorry as he unravels the event that was both was & wasn’t, aka *Schrodinger’s Christmas Party*
@Femi_Sorry "A man who stood in the rain as he saw his sick father for the last time has said he is "devastated" and "very angry" that he followed lockdown rules while Downing Street staff held a Christmas party" news.sky.com/story/man-who-…
