🚨🚨 98,515 #Covid19 cases reported in England today (other nations having time off).

7 day average is up 37% week on week but the rate of growth down slightly.
Cases are up in more or less every age group in England, but more significantly in the older and more vulnerable age groups.

The vast majority of them - 85% plus have had booster vaccines though.
On 27 December there was an average of 7,377 #Covid19 patients in English hospitals - the highest since March.

New admissions are increasing at a faster rate than total patients in hospital suggesting patients are leaving faster.
The rate of growth in #Covid19 cases in #London where #Omicron took off first has fallen sharply in recent days which is a good sign.

🚨🚨 @GilesWatling - ‘An even more frightening statistic... 99% of deaths are through the unvaccinated’

➡️ Frightening because this Conservative MP is talking nonsense ❌

💥 Latest data shows 27% of deaths within 28 days of a positive #covid19 test among the unvaccinated
Data source - assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…

Yet another clueless MP who has a say in what restrictions are imposed on this country through voting in parliament.
This thread captures some of the highlights in recent weeks of misinformation across the mainstream media.

Needless to say the facts given to the public are not what the data shows.

🚨🚨 The Covid19 case rate per 100k people has gone over 1000 for the first time in Wales since the start of the pandemic.

Its likely it was higher at the start in March 2020 but there was very little testing happening.
The Welsh Government are not updated hospital figures over the Xmas period but going into Xmas the number of #Covid19 patients in welsh hospitals were at a 3 month low and 83% lower than this time last year.
With the new #Omicron variant cases will become an even less important metric other than people being unable to work due to self isolating.

We are seeing more patients in England admitted with Covid but not in because of it.

🚨🚨 @Tobias_Ellwood - ‘The people who are filling up our hospitals are those who choose not to get jabbed’

FACT CHECK

➡️ 6% of general beds have patients with Covid - 20% for critical care beds

➡️ According to UKHSA 46% of patients admitted with Covid were unvaccinated.
First point is to remember the vast majority of patients in hospital are not in with Covid at all. The number of patients in hospital with Covid significantly lower than this time last year too - 59% lower.

Overall more patients in hospital due to catch up of missing healthcare.
Second point is that there are more Covid patients in hospital who are vaccinated than unvaccinated. Is this a surprise?

Well the vast majority of people in the country are vaccinated so no.

If you look at rates, unvaccinated more likely to be admitted.

🚨🚨 Dawn Bowden - 'Welsh Government website is bursting with scientific advice and data'

➡️ The same website where there was no evidence for the #vaccinepass, to the contrary it said it could backfire?

➡️ Same website that is least transparent in the home nations with data?
Many won't have a clue who she is but she is Labour member of the Senedd who is the Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport. The party that has just closed sports attendance down for many in Wales.
If you do want to pop over to the website you can also read the scientific advice claiming deaths because of #omicron would result in them being over double the peak of last year - nonsense if you factor in the vaccine programme.

🚨🚨 Daily Mirror - ‘Number of COVID patients in England's NHS hospital rockets by 62% in Christmas surge’

FACT CHECK

➡️ In 7 days to 26 Dec there were 7122 patients in English hospitals, up 12% on the 7 days earlier.

12% more reflective not 62% - Daily Mirror nonsense again
There were a few trusts who had issues providing data over Xmas and we will probably get it added in, but this would not get you anywhere near 62%.
Daily Mirror have form with making up headlines not reflective of the data

🚨🚨 Daily Mail - ‘Unjabbed people are 60 times more likely to end up in intensive care’

FACT CHECK

➡️ Those 60-69 the rate of ICU admissions are 60x higher than unvaccinated ✅

➡️ Number may be unreliable as issues estimating unvaccinated population

dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…
This blog explains differences in results you get either using information from ONS to get population size, or the National Immunisation Service (NIMS).

The ICNARC report quoted by Daily Mail using ONS data.

osr.statisticsauthority.gov.uk/communicating-…
60x headline does not refer to the whole population - its much lower for other age groups, and possibly lower for 60 to 69 age group if different estimates for unvaccinated are used

Putting that aside, all evidence is unvaccinated more likely to be admitted to hospital and ICU
