Need one of the #N95#bettermasks right away? Like today because someone in your home is infected. Or maybe you need to go to work and you think you need better protection NOW.
They are surprisingly hard to get. Here's how to get one.
They appear to have the best in-stock selection including the widely-praised Aura 9205+.
Another plus for Home Depot is if you don't have a car, they offer same-day delivery for $8.99.
Plus you can search inventory at local stores on their website and order it for curbside or counter pickup so you know it will be there when you arrive.
If you can afford it, I'd say stick with a 3M brand N95.
It's a guess on my part, but I think you have a better chance at getting a good fit to your face with a 3M mask. The Aura comes in a 3 or 10 pack.
Another good option is a local @AceHardware affiliated store. These stores also offer searchable inventory and a pickup option.
Another good option is a local @AceHardware affiliated store. These stores also offer searchable inventory and a pickup option. And if your local Ace store doesn't have it, searching other stores in the area is fairly easy. Nice job @AceHardware!
There is also @TrueValue, but their website is much worse than Ace. To search, you have to look store by store. OTOH, some stores carry the SoftSeal mask (though often, or maybe only, the valved version). That is a great mask. softsealmask.com
After these options, it gets worse unless you get lucky.
If there is a @Grainger near you, it is a good option with quality products (though probably in bigger quantities than you might want). In my limited experience with them, they've had trouble keeping them in stock.
Again, you can check inventory at a local store online. But the stores close early and tend to be in out-of-the-way locations.
@Lowes was a real disappointment because they offer few if any N95s without valves that are in stock. In a search this morning, I could not find any without valves in the DC area.
But their website is the best of all.
On the product search page, it shows if a mask is in stock at your store. If not, it ALSO shows what store DOES have it.
To their credit, they also offer the excellent SoftSeal mask, but only I see only the valved versions.
Now in fairness, a valved version will protect you.
And it appears to protect others from you better than a cloth mask.
If there is a local hardware store not part of Ace or the True Value networks, check there.
Your next best bet is the 3M Advanced Filtering Face Mask AFFM, which some @Target stores have in stock.
This is not an N95 rated mask, but it is a CDC Workplace Performance Plus mask. It offers N95 class performance IF you use the ear savers. wwwn.cdc.gov/PPEInfo/RG/Fac…
Incredibly I could not find any N95s at @cvspharmacy, @Walgreens or @riteaid. Shame on you! All pharmacies should carry N95 masks, or at least the 3M AFFM.
Staples, Office Depot and Amazon often offer next-day delivery. A few Staples stores might have an N95 if you get lucky.
But if you have someone infected now, you need an #N95 now.
If you order from Amazon, my advice is to buy only an N95 sold by Amazon and not sold by a third-party seller unless the third-party seller is listed as an authorized seller by the manufacturer.
Again, distribute widely at drugstores and supermarkets. Make them cheap, a 3-pack for $1.
3. Approve the Corsi-Rosenthal box for schools as safe and effective. Make funds available to schools for the boxes and portable HEPA filtration machines.
4. Create a federal mask standard for the public. Have one also for child sizes. This will also be useful for wildfire-caused pollution.
2/ "NIOSH has been informed that many legitimate manufacturers in China have been counterfeited. In such cases, NIOSH has no way of verifying which products are counterfeit and which are authentic.
3/ "While the manufacturer listed in the table is shown as the manufacturer of the product evaluated, NIOSH has been informed that some of these are actually counterfeit products.
1/ On February 2, 2021 the National Personal Protective Technology Laboratory (NPPTL) published assessments for many foreign made masks, including KN95s. Some minimum #KN95 filtration results were < 26%! But others had >95%. @AbraarKaran@linseymarr@zeynep@CorsIAQ
2/ Before we get to the results at tweet 7, you should read the introduction. Excerpts: @nataliexdean
"[T]en respirators were submitted for evaluation. The samples were tested using a modified version of NIOSH Standard Test Procedure...
3/ "Only particulate filter efficiency was assessed. The results of these tests are for the sample tested and may or may not be representative of a larger lot or population of similar respirators.
This new mask to prevent #COVID19 is on the market. If you need solid comfortable protection, it seems like a solid product. I've not bought one yet. They are going for NIOSH approval as a respirator and I'll think they'll get it. openstandardindustries.com
I looked at their test results. It seems like the best you can get.
Watch this video to learn more about the story of how it came into being.
The only uncertainty I have is how well people can hear you when you have it on. I think it is better than most reusable masks.
So it is probably best for essential workers who don't have to do a lot of talking. So not great for a teacher, for example.
