🚨🚨 33% of patients with #Covid19 in acute hospitals in England are in for other reasons but happen to have Covid.
➡️ This has increased from around 25% since mid-Dec.
The % across all hospital settings could be as high as 42%.
I had included to this metric patients who catch Covid-19 within hospitals as the NHS website says this number (33%) relates to those who catch Covid-19 in the community.
Today they have confirmed it also includes those who catch in hospital. I have asked them to update website
The 33% relates only to those in acute hospitals. Acute care is where a patient receives active, short-term treatment for a condition.
There are patients with Covid-19 in settings such as community or mental hospitals. It is less likely patients here are being treated for Covid.
28 Dec - 8,321 patients with Covid-19 in acute hospitals of which 2,743 (33%) were not being treated specifically for it.
Also 1,225 in non acute hospitals with Covid. If they were not primarily Covid, this increases the % of patients in hospital with Covid but not for it to 42%
