Quick take on the situation in #Kazakhstan. The rapid escalation took all sides by surprise. The military seems to be staying loyal and this is now enforced by the foreign special forces and rapid reaction forces entering Kazakstan. 1/4
While the uprising was initially successful, it lacked a clear leadership and a strategy that could lead to a quick victory as is common with spontaneous uprisings escalating on the spot. Geography makes gaining enough control to constrict government movement impossible. 2/4
The broad participation from other CSTO countries and the bulk of Kazakh security forces staying in line means that Russian forces deployed to Kazakstan do not significantly reduce their operational capabilities on other fronts. 3/4
This will be a serious warning to other similar regimes in the region to curb more civil rights or find distractions from the inevitable economic hardships coming this winter.
Russia is included in this group.

This official Russian line is a complete lie. In 1939 USSR was allied with the Third Reich and the secret Molotov-Ribbentrop pact placed Finland into the Soviet hands. Germany refused to help Finland and blocked military aid to Finland during Winter War.
