I stood against Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, big Brexit backer, in GE19 in #cotswolds which voted remain.

I challenged him on what #brexit means for farming, essentially decimation for rural constituencies reliant on agriculture like Cotswolds.

2. I urged Sir Geoffrey to connect with his brother, Colin, who was chair of Suffolk NFU.

Here is Colin in 2016 predicting exactly what is unfolding for #farming now we have Brexit.

3. And to recap, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown voted against protecting our food standards despite the fact low quality imports coming into the UK impact the livelihoods of farmers in the UK who have to meet the high standards and damage public health.

4. So it’s a bit rich that since #northshrophire result, GCB is now switching sides and pretending to fight for British farming and rural areas AFTER he voted to destroy us.

5. Please write to Sir Geoffrey Clifton Brown and ask if he will be supporting the Private Members’ Bill brought by @timfarron to ensure Parliament gets a vote on these damaging trade deals.

Only the @LibDems are truly United on fighting for British farming and British food.
In GE19 Cirencester hustings, we were asked about the impact of #Brexit on farming in the Cotswolds.

My response briefly captured exactly what is now unfolding - apart from I didn’t foresee the labour shortages.

Sir Geoffrey’s response in next tweet
Sir Geoffrey pledges the same funding for five years - subsidies are now being cut less than 2 years later.

He claims there will be huge opportunities for farming out of the EU.

Now of course he’s changed his mind!

Politico’s Playbook on #NorthShropshire

“Tories downbeat: The conclusion that the Lib Dems are now favorites is shared by Tory MPs who have visited the seat. One told Playbook they expect to lose.”
Lib Dems sniff an upset as Tories win apathy vote.

thetimes.co.uk/article/0acb04…
The North Shropshire by-election on Thursday is shaping up to be the closest battle in the Tory stronghold in living memory, as weeks of scandal in Westminster show signs of angering the party faithful and eroding support for Boris Johnson.

One of four charts for consideration.

Immigration fear is no longer a big thing after Britain ran into supply chain difficulties. Image
Two of four: concerns about poverty and inequality continue to run high. Image
Three of four : concerns about the economy increasing steadily but not yet as high as the 2008 financial crash. Image

Stanley Johnson, like father, like son. Interview from 2009 about his book which is crammed with insights into the Johnson family psyche.

All the things people suspect of Boris are found to be true of his father, by his own account.

independent.co.uk/news/people/pr…
Stanley has fixated on overpopulation yet he’s not embarrassed about having 6 kids and just treats it as a bit of a joke. "The population explosion was taking place in the Third World."

The implication is that the planet should be jolly glad to have so many Johnsons.
Their money comes from an ancestor who left the family farm on Exmoor to find his fortune in the City of London. They have genetic links to Turkish politics and George II.
