I‘m going to be honest, I don’t feel safe as a high school student in Alberta. The kids around me in math, com-tech, and science often are anti-vaccine, and don’t wear a mask properly if at all. 1/
In physical education, as many as a dozen people, often including adults, were unmasked. New regulations mandate masking in the gym as well. New routines need to be developed if that continues to be the case. Throughout the building, there is a stillness in the air- a perfect
Environment for an aerosol disease such as COVID to thrive. Only one room has a proper filtration unit that I think is effectively removing particulate from the air. Things also aren’t sanitized as vigilantly as they were a year and a half ago. Desks are sometimes done, and
Computers are often left uncleared, gym equipment unwashed. Meanwhile, the stillness of the air remains. THis is not a criticism of the staff at my school, nor of any particular students- more of a cry for help.
@jkenney , @CMOH_Alberta , @AdrianaLaGrange , I don’t like being online, but this is important. We need to stop the spread. I hate your administration, environmental policy, and your prioritization of capitalism and our floundering economy over children’s lives.
But I think with logic, foresight, and a bit of basic extrapolation of data, even you can see that the future of in-person schooling at least for the next few months, is not bright. Why should we wait for more families to be devastated by classroom-borne COVID, when we can
Simply put an end to it now? Proactivity is needed in this rapidly changing world, and right now, we don’t have any of it. C’mon, folks. Kenney, Hinshaw, and LaGrange, you need to do better. You are failing us. Think of the children
And with that, thanks for your attention to this matter. Our lives depend on it.
Again, the teachers are doing all they can with a small roster of staff and of course limited help/guidance from the Albertan Government. Staff and subs are hard to find normally, and now there’s even more of a shortage. A circuit-breaker lockdown of schools and non-essential
Businesses is needed to ease the strain on our health care and education systems. #abed
