I have no idea what Accelerationism is but it seems to involve the movie 'The Matrix' which I had previously only appreciated as a reminder of Sydney before it was ruined by the Olympics and the 'global city' spivs that ruin every city
TBC: The Matrix was a good SciFi movie. No one in ~2000 thought it was about Trans. Many esp trad Christians thought Neo (anagram of One) and Trinity were Christian allegories, Moebius as a prophet, No one in ~2000 thought trans anything.
The Matrix also reminds that there were large parts of urban Sydney where you could still park in ~2000. The Olympics - which is a magnet for every Spiv & urban planning crook to ruin your city - really changed Sydney & gave the worst people a start in a beautiful city.
I should add for completeness that by all accounts, Keanu Reeves is a really nice guy and when he was in Sydney filming the Matrix series, people would run into him & he was endlessly polite and accommodating. Never heard a bad word about him.

You - Australia is a massive Federation and the pandemic has shown us all the problems of parochial States neglecting the national interest.

@AusRepublic - here is our model to ensure every President would come from Sydney or Melbourne at the risk of the Federation's unity. Image
Australia is a nation-state under both the Crown and under our monarchical and federal Constitution (our preamble actually tells you a lot about the institutional set-up). If you want a republic, you need to draft a constitution from a blank sheet of paper for a republic. Image
I covered off on the Republic in straightfoward terms here in @dailytelegraph in 2019, for the 20th anniversary of the Republic's 1999 defeat. (right click to open in larger format). Image

Notwithstanding some curator atrocities, I strongly advise anyone in Sydney to patronise @ArtGalleryofNSW as we (and many others) did yesterday. It has a wonderful collection. As few go to the 'modern' collection, it should give way so more of the 18th/19thC art can be displayed.
Eduard Detaille, "Vive l'Empereur" (1891) ... the Imperial French 4th Hussar Regiment during Napoleonic Wars. Detaille's painting pays endless study as it was a depiction of the Hussars' charge as Napoleon himself would have wanted.
Edouard Detaille was so committed to the detail of his work that a portrait was done of Detaille at work here (by Basil Lemeunier, also 1891) painting the immense canvas - surrounded by the arms and uniforms of the French Hussars.

I await all the facts (etc) but how was Novak Djokovic ever allowed to board a plane to enter Australia when at all times, everyone knew he was not vaccinated? And who are the other 25 players who sought similar exemptions? A thorough chronology of CTH/VIC Govt actions is needed.
Whether you are Novak Djokovic or anyone else, you are entitled to be treated fairly in the application of immigration rules. You may have no natural right to enter another's country but immigration rules are made under statute, enacted by Parliament, under the Constitution etc
I am neither pro nor anti Novak Djokovic (or anyone) but I am entirely against arbitrary and capricious impositions of 'the rules' against anyone. A full accounting of what actually happened between Govts & Tennis bodies that lead to the denial of Djokovic's entry is required.

Jimmy Barnes screaming a slow version of "Flame Trees", the alternative national anthem, is a sad nadir of national decline .... no change, no pace, this is out of place etc & why she is not around etc ... no one remembers this & everyone stopped this on the field etc #NYEABC
Tina Arena trying to sing AC/DC's "Back In Black" .... nothing is sacred now ..... this is like the worst End Of Financial Year office karaoke after which a Managing Director has to resign because of 'workplace culture' issues #NYEABC
Look, find Suze DeMarchi and pay all the Baby Animals to re-form for a NYE concert. This is lame.

Watching the annual end of year press conference that Russian President, Vladimir Putin, conducts with local and foreign media. It is now in (at least) its second hour. Wondering whether US President Biden, who has no less sycophantic a local media, could do this for as long?
Putin just said what is in Ukraine is the western frontier of historic Russia - and that the idea of Ukraine only exists because of Lenin (!) and as the Soviet Union disappeared, so should the conception of a separate Ukraine .....
Putin talking a lot about NATO expansion to Russia's borders ... in the 1990s, everyone from George Kennan down who had any knowledge of Russian history said that NATO expansion would sow enmity with Russia & ensure Russia would raise up a nationalist leader bent on revanchism...

I wrote this in July 2018 on "The Sources Of Russian Conduct" with a particular focus on Russian geopolitics, military history, strategic culture, and the view from the Kremlin. Always try to understand your adversary on his own terms.

I would note Putin's comments below on the demise of "Historical Russia" that includes Belarus, Ukraine & the Baltics, are widely shared among Russians (inc diaspora). If Putin was replaced tomorrow by the Tsar, the Tsar would share Putin aims & policies

Given reporting of RUS/UKR situation, WW2 maps should concentrate minds as Eastern Front defences/offensives are a staple of Russian military staff study. There is no easy way to resupply UKR in Winter even (bravely) assuming European aid in NATO [cheap RUS gas conflicts Europe] Image
