Here's closeup of the overnight storm activity over Saudi and the Gulf, again 24 hours.
For a scale comparison here is a measurement of the area of storm activity close to its peak, 115k km2.
Here we have a satellite measured rainfall image of the storm impact. We can see here the majority of rainfall during this period was over Iran.
The rain impacts over the Eastern Mediterranean coast- Sinai, Israel, Lebanon and Jordan by contrast has been significantly less than forecast two days ago. So far very little of this rainfall has been realised.
Here's the rain over last 24 hours as recorded by @meteoblue Perhaps it will pick up - we are now half way through the 90 hour forecast - first image in the quoted tweet above.
Ethiopia has some incoming, unseasonal, rain forecast. This is a 72 hour forecast from the latest GFS model.
And not just Ethiopia. Further south in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania significantly more rain is forecast.

This 24 hour animation shows two causes. On the right there is a large area of active convection in the Indian Ocean which is producing atmospheric moisture which is flowing into the horn over Somalia.
Simultaneously the East African Monsoon is having a burst of activity pushing north into South Sudan and South West Ethiopia.
"Why do we the world Isaias and China commit all the Genoncide. TwitterSpace with Martin Plaut in attendance underway. "The world is just watching in silence." twitter.com/i/spaces/1dRKZ…
"The one thing that is clear is the Chinese have decided which side they are on. They are supplying drones to Abiy, and they are being used to kill people, its tragic." - Martin Plaut.
Going on to talk about Isayas being a Maoist like the Chinese and how he is taking all the money from the mineral mining concessions in the country.
This is satellite imagery during the period during which this latest Tongan eruption has occurred (see quoted tweet). There is a signature which could be an eruption. But nothing like the earlier ones. Perhaps entirely under water and giving off steam. @MichaelFieldNZ
It seems the @UN in Geneva does not recognize any issue with a serving senior UN official - @drtedros - using his position to advance the cause of a terrorist organization - that he belongs to - in it’s prosecution of a brutal war of secession.
If @DrTedros is now willing to use the @WHO’s global media reach occasioned by the #covid19 pandemic to pursue an agenda of rebellion, what do we think he was willing to do at the outset of this war, when his TPLF colleagues treacherously murdered 1000s of their colleagues?
All @UN staff are honour bound to uphold the principles of impartiality and independence and harm minimization.
What sort of example does @DrTedros’s partial advocacy on behalf of his criminal TPLF colleagues set for other UN officials?
