12,262 deaths were registered in England & Wales in the week ending 7 Jan 2022. This was

▪ 3,785 more than Week 52 2021
▪ 1,036 (7.8%) fewer deaths than the five-year average.

7.5% of all deaths registered in the week ending 7 Jan 2022 mentioned #COVID19 on the death certificate in England and Wales (922 deaths).

This was an increase in the number of deaths from the previous week (582 deaths, 6.9% of all deaths).
In England, 857 deaths involving #COVID19 were registered in the week ending 7 Jan (compared with 557 deaths registered the previous week).

In Wales, 61 deaths involving COVID-19 were registered in this week (compared with 24 the previous week).

The average age of mothers in England and Wales in 2020 remained at 30.7 years.
