Q: “How to meditate and get it right?”

Marv: Meditation requires no technique, so there’s no way to get it wrong.

Meditation is not a mission, so you must be willing to let go of any desired results.

Your mind will find this difficult to accept because it is always trying label everything or to achieve something.
Effortlessness is counterintuitive to the mind’s programming (which is why it’s the only way out of the maze).

Any technique you employ to subdue the mind will only agitate it.
The true witness remains detached and unbothered by whatever the mind does, it simply observes.

When you sit to meditate, do these 3 things:
A)

Go in without expecting any transcendental experience.

Be prepared to welcome any disturbance that your mind throws at you, as well as any discomfort your body may feel.
Your intention for the practice must be to simply observe your mind with a sense of awe and affection.

To begin your session - close your eyes and imagine you were disappearing from the world (or that the world was disappearing for you).
B)

Note the sounds in your surroundings, feel your body from within and watch the movement of your breath.

With every exhale, imagine your breath was touching the very borders of the sky.
C)

Disconnect from the senses and connect with the presence within.

Observe everything, but don’t get carried away by them.
When you realize you’ve been caught in a stream of thoughts, don’t judge or blame yourself. It is enough that you have noticed it.

Simply retrace your attention to the feeling of presence.
Make no effort to stay in presence - you cannot leave it and it cannot leave you.

Your mind will inevitably wander off again. The practice is about learning to return to the present without judgment.
You may find that the mind still tries to quiet itself or intensify its focus with a technique.

These are all resistance thoughts put up by the mind against its own restlessness.

The mind, you see, is like a monkey playing silly games with itself.
Remain alert to its subtle trickeries -

The more you let go of your desire to control, the deeper you’ll fall into stillness & silence.

The simpler your meditation, the better your awareness.
Organizing your mind is the first step to creating a meaningful life.

A man of presence must cultivate discipline in these areas

- His diet
- His speech
- His motives
- His sexuality
- His social circle / media

They are non-negotiables if you must fully awaken...
Diet -

Eat to satiate hunger, not to dissipate emotions. Develop emotional control instead

Minimize inflammatory foods

Consume more foods that are natural & lively (fruits, vegetables, nuts)
Sexuality

Avoid porn, it destroys your physical & mental integrity.

Be energy sensitive, every intercourse is a memory download.

Most people are selfish with money - when they should be more selfish with their time, energy & attention...
Never allow anyone waste your time, including yourself!

Time is the very fabric that life is made of.

Consequently - if you value your life, you’ll value your time.
70% of your time should be spent doing meaningful work.

20% should be spent on hobbies that make you smarter, happier, healthier, richer or more socia.

10% should be spent on trivial things.

Employ these two mental models to become time conscious;

For most people -

The wisdom of old age is gained when the energy of their youth is gone.

It’s more efficient to learn from the experiences of others, rather than relying on the trial & error of yours.
Read extensively

And read books that directly oppose your paradigm & currently held beliefs

You can only improve your discernment & logical reasoning when you allow contradictory ideas to stimulate your mind.
If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you’ll think the same way everyone does

And if you think like everyone else, you aren’t thinking at all!
