🚨🧵THREAD | Islamophobia & the persecution of minorities in India
In recent years, Indian Muslims & other minorities have been subject to ⬆️ levels of systemic discrimination, hate speech, mob violence & lynchings, whilst also facing threats to their places of worship. (1/9)
In fact, Gregory Stanton, the founder & director of Genocide Watch, said there were early “signs & processes” of genocide in the Indian state of Assam & Indian-administered Kashmir against Indian Muslims, during a recent US Congressional briefing. (2/9)
During events held in Delhi and Haridwar in December 2021, for example, Hindutva leaders called for the genocide of India's 213 million Muslim citizens. (3/9)
In November 2021, Hinduvata hardliners set fire to the home of India's former Minister of External Affairs, Salman Khurshid, who spoke out against violent Hindu nationalism. (4/9)
Other minority faith communities are also being targeted.
Ahead of Christmas last month, for example, Churches were vandalised & radicals disrupted services in Haryana & forced churchgoers to chant "Jai Shri Ram" (Glory/Victory to Lord Ram). (6/9)
The MCB has written to the Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, calling for action to be taken.
“Just as Gov. has taken firm line against genocide of Muslims in China, we ask the same admirable stance is taken against the disturbing situation...in India.” (9/9)

STATEMENT | Muslim Council of Britain responds to Black Lives Matter protests across the world | 2 June 2020
“We commit to playing our part in tackling anti-black racism within the UK, supporting the individuals & organisations doing vital work in this space, whilst focusing on addressing anti-black racism w.in Muslim communities.”
Issuing a statement without committing to action is an exercise in futility, and so, we redouble our efforts to address anti-black racism, with a key focus on tackling anti-black racism within British Muslim communities, today. [2/10]
The guidance issued by terror police which list 'Muslim beliefs' as signs of extremism is unacceptable and further evidence that the UK Govt's Prevent strategy seeks to discriminate against and stigmatise British Muslims. 1/4
MCB Secretary General, @harakha said:
“Muslims are held in concentration camps in China, ethnically cleansed in Myanmar, and still under lockdown after 163 days in Kashmir. This is clear oppression which everyone – not just Muslims – should be voicing concerns about. rs." 2/4
@harakha "In the UK, there is little doubt about the reality of structural and institutional discrimination against Muslims, whether from our elected politicians, in sections of our media or embedded in certain policies." 3/4
