4/ As discussed in my post, I believe the last #SCOTUS clerk with no lower-court clerkship was Margo Schlanger (@mjschlanger), who was hired to clerk for then-Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg (D.C. Cir.) but wound up going straight to the Court with RBG in 1993.

5/ Correction (thanks to @MarkGalus for pointing this out): Yochai Benkler clerked for Justice Breyer in OT 1995 without a lower-court clerkship. So Benkler is, AFAIK, the last #SCOTUS clerk before Tara Helfman without a prior clerkship.
