DEADLINE: Voting rights stalled in the Senate. Channel your rage into ramping up Plan B: Protecting voting rights and organizing in key states like Wisconsin—voter by voter. Read on for how to help, then become a monthly donor by the midnight FEC deadline: secure.actblue.com/donate/janeom2…
The GOP’s plot to suppress and subvert its way to power in 2022 and 2024 depends on gaining enough control of enough states to overturn a presidential election. If we hold the line in Governorships like WI, MI, and PA, the GOP plot fails. And the closest of these is Wisconsin.
In America’s must-win tipping point state, the furthest extremes of the right are becoming more emboldened. A first-year far-right state Rep was filmed calling for Republicans to “cheat.” Another GOPer introduced a bill calling for election nullification.
The question isn’t how far the GOP is willing to go. We know now that they don’t have boundaries. The question is whether we’re willing to step up and stop them. Organizing precinct by precinct, county by county to save our democracy.
First: In Wisconsin, we’ve got an election on April 5 (the primary is just around the corner: Feb 15), which will not only determine our local governments—but choose officials that will play a critical role in how the fall elections are administered. vote.wisdems.org
We’re not just organizing to win the high-profile statewide races this year—we’re talking about the local races that make our democracy work: clerks, judges, mayors, city councilmembers. Republicans have their eyes on these seats too. nytimes.com/2022/01/09/opi…
We need to elect values-aligned officials at the local level. Last week, I heard the @RacineDems outline their plans to fight for majorities on the County Board, Common Council, and School Board. Great candidates will be on the ballot. Support your local candidates this spring!
All spring, WisDems volunteers will be out knocking on doors, calling phones, and hitting up friends and family via text and social media. Together, we’ll out-organize the MAGA-fied GOP and elect people who believe in democracy. Join us: wisdems.org/volunteer
Last Saturday, our Absentee Ballot Request Day of Action had a massive turnout of WisDems volunteers and organizers calling voters to remind them that they can now request absentee ballots—for the full year. Get yours today! myvote.wi.gov/voteabsentee
Missed the recent Day of Action? We have Spring election weekends of action lined up for you—to remind voters about this important election and how they can vote. Sign up here: mobilize.us/wisdems/?end_d…
If you’re an out-of-state supporter of WisDems and itching to get involved, you are more than welcome to join us. Sign up for our Distributed Volunteer Program: mobilize.us/wisdems/event/…
On top of the impasse in the Senate, the GOP continues to push the Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen—and recruiting those Big Lie believers into our electoral process to work in precincts. But the @WisDems Voter Protection team is fighting back.
Our Voter Protection team is working hard to ensure WI has a full complement of pro-democracy poll workers ready to staff our elections, observers to keep an eye on what happens & hotline volunteers to make sure voters get their voices heard. Join them! vote.wisdems.org/volunteer/
Just last week, 250+ volunteers joined our spring Voter Protection kickoff. People are fired up to protect our democracy! We’re hosting Voter Protection 101 trainings (on Wisconsin election laws) and other workshops all throughout the year—find one here: mobilize.us/dpw/?utm_sourc…
Interested in helping voters navigate the upcoming elections? Volunteer with our amazing Voter Assistance Hotline. You’ll be fully trained to answer voting questions and empower voters with accurate voting info. Sign up for a training in Feb: mobilize.us/dpw/event/4370…
Speaking of county by county organizing—join your county party! County parties are the heartbeat of our party. Want to know more about local politics? Run for office? Join your county party and you’ll meet just the right people to help you get started: wisdems.org/get-involved/c…
We’re organizing in rural WI, suburbs, and cities alike. We’re organizing across lines of race, ethnicity, language, gender, & geography. We have a year-round Coalitions team specializing in partnerships with Black, Latino, & AAPI leaders. And we’re hiring:wisdems.org/jobs
The ways you can get involved with your county party are limitless: volunteer on local campaigns or community service events, or connect with other Democrats and progressives like you—older, younger, from all walks of life. There’s always a space for you & opportunities to lead.
County parties are the heartbeat of our party and advise us on important issues. Last year, county party leaders emphasized the need to distribute yard signs, *especially* in rural areas. Now, all county parties have Gov Evers’ yard signs earlier in the cycle than ever before!
We’re building leadership capacity of our county parties too. This month, elected officers from all aspects of WisDems county parties had their 1st annual Grassroots Officers Retreat to be equipped with skills to be victorious this 2022 cycle. We're continuing to build! Join us.
We’re building a year-round democracy machine based on our FIRE values: Fight, Include, Respect, and Empower. It’s possible because of you. It’s possible because of the people who volunteer and donate and power this party.
This is the moment. Become a @WisDems monthly donor. Monthly donors allow us to do all of the above, and even more not mentioned in this thread. Our goal for January is to get 78 new monthly donors. That's by midnight TONIGHT. Can you sign up? secure.actblue.com/donate/janeom2…
Monthly donors are magic for state parties. The grassroots support we can count on month to month allows us to plan sustainably, keep radical forces out, & ultimately—save our democracy. Plan B is out-organizing the GOP here in the states. Help us keep up. secure.actblue.com/donate/janeom2…
We’re #AllinForTony, to reelect Gov Evers. We don’t have to guess what #RadicalRebecca Kleefisch or Kevin Nicholson would do to our elections if they're given the chance—it’s in the bills Gov Evers vetoed to protect our democracy, and the even worse bills they’re preparing now.
And we’re organizing nonstop to defeat Ron Johnson. Johnson sided with Senate Republicans who chose to protect the filibuster over the future of American democracy. We’re replacing him with a strong Democrat who’ll help pass voting rights legislation.
There are 280 days until Election Day. With Ron Johnson, Rebecca Kleefisch, & Kevin Nicholson threatening our democracy, we’ve got no time to waste. Start your recurring donation (of any amount) and help us get to 78 new monthly donors by midnight TONIGHT: secure.actblue.com/donate/janeom2…
We’re pouring every iota of energy we’ve got to fight for the future of our democracy, here in Wisconsin. Plan B is all of us. All of us rising to this moment. secure.actblue.com/donate/janeom2…
For a deep dive on the political math that dictates why the governors races in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan are the most critical elections in the country in 2022 in order to save democracy, read this piece:

If you become a new (or returning) WisDems monthly donor today, will you please let me know? I would love to personally thank you for joining us. 👇

The Senate struck down voting rights reform. But we’re not losing hope. We’re using it as fuel to fight harder than ever before. And monthly donors help us staff up and gear up for 2022.
Wisconsin has an election on April 5 for local offices that'll determine whether our democracy functions in Fall 2022.
Help us elect people who believe in democracy. Become a monthly donor by our midnight deadline: wisdems.org/savedemocracy

THREAD: Self-serving Ron Johnson announced his reelection campaign 16 days ago. It has NOT gone well. Wisconsin voters are seeing @WisDems billboards, @dscc TV ads, & digital & traditional media exposés of his corruption. Chip in to keep it going & read on!secure.actblue.com/donate/billboa…
@WisDems@dscc Johnson promised in 2010 AND 2016 that he’d only serve two terms. But for Johnson, promises are like cobwebs: annoying trash to be wiped away. Why the change of heart? Maybe because his net worth has more than doubled while in office. 🧐 congressionalintegrity.org/memo-how-ron-j…
When Ron Johnson announced, he blew hundreds of thousands of dollars on TV ads trying to explain away his breaking of his two-term promise. Meanwhile, the @dscc put ads on TV explaining who he really serves: himself.
To protect voting rights now, organize in the states.
The battle for the ballot—shifting tides, historic breakthroughs and heartbreaking setbacks—has never been a "one vote in the Senate" situation. You, the non-senator reading this right now, have a critical role. We need all hands on deck.
This vote failed.
Time for Plan B.
Want to think nationally? Act locally—and strategically. Look for organizations in states that will be critical to winning the presidency, the Senate, the House. States like Wisconsin—and MI PA GA AZ NC NV NH. Donate. Volunteer. Recruit others to help.
BREAKING: RON JOHNSON JUST ANNOUNCED HE’S RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION. He’s the worst senator up in ‘22—AND the most vulnerable. We can defeat him. Chip in any amount and let’s end Ron Johson’s political career for good. secure.actblue.com/donate/ronjohn…
Ron Johnson is, infamously, @TheWorstSenator. (If you question that distinction, click through to that account.) He burst into a new level of national prominence & loathing after 1/6, when he fed the insurrection—then denied it was an insurrection at all.
And we can’t forget how Johnson scammed every American by giving massive tax breaks to his biggest donors and himself—while, by the way, paying virtually nothing in state income taxes in 2017, and opposing tax breaks for the middle class. apnews.com/article/busine…
Ron Johnson has spent years in the Senate looking out for himself at the expense of Wisconsinites and failing to do the job he was elected to do, and it’s time to face the consequences.
Official statement from me/@WisDems, with receipts.

My quote in NYT: “He’s an active menace to American democracy, a threat to public health and an economic saboteur of the middle class. His sole redeeming quality in public life is that in 2022, he’s going to inspire Democrats to organize and turn out.” nytimes.com/2022/01/09/us/…
The insurrectionists attacked America on 1/6 by storming the Capitol. The most critical front in defending America in 2022 may just be Wisconsin.
Quick thread.
Republican radical Rebecca Kleefisch, running for WI governor this year, refuses to comment on whether she'd sign laws allowing the legislature to overturn presidential election results.
She aims to achieve the insurrectionists' goals, by other means.
Senator Ron Johnson, up this November, helped fuel the 1/6 attacks on America by pushing Big Lie rhetoric—and then immediately downplayed the attack and began pushing conspiracy theories about it.
IT’S THE FINAL DAY OF 2021. We’re closing in on our goal of 200 new recurring monthly donors by midnight TONIGHT. Why do we need support? Because we’re fighting for democracy on five fronts. Click to chip in, and read on for the final two in our countdown: secure.actblue.com/donate/eo21?re…
We’ve talked about Robin Vos and the shamtacular Michael Gableman investigation. We’ve talked about Mike Gallagher, Derrick Van Orden, and GOP members of Congress. We’ve talked about (yikes) Ron Johnson. Now it’s time for #2: Wisconsin’s Supreme Court and Partisan Gerrymandering.
Wisconsin’s Supreme Court is officially nonpartisan. The reality, though, is that it’s a 4-3 conservative-majority body that is, at this very moment, working to lock in Republican control of Wisconsin’s state legislature for the next decade.
