Let's be 100% clear. Something is happening in Ottawa & Coutts, AB, that many Cdns have seen in other parts of the world - the beginnings of an uprising. Uprisings don't need majority support. They need some of what the Convoy has, as the occupation of downtown Ottawa continues.
We can focus on the ugly banners and the desecration of monuments & institutions. They assault the Cdn heart-difficult to watch. But they are pathetic side shows. Canada's police services & possibly our military need to end the occupation of the core area of the nation's capital.
If Cdn authority looks weak & helpless for much longer, this could spread beyond Ottawa & Coutts,AB (U.S.border) No matter how many videos #PierrePoilievre chooses to record, surrounding himself w bubbly Canadians, partying while residents & businesses suffer, this is no party.
I'd love to think that the Convoy will just fizzle on its own. Don't want to see ugly confrontations w police & protesters & at last resort, military assistance, but this is no longer just a peaceful protest. It's a threat public safety.

"The main reason why large parts of the country, including Ontario and Quebec, are repeatedly being put into severe lockdowns compared to other comparable, developed countries is due to
the chronic lack of surge capacity in our hospitals, due to a combination of decades or provincial & federal gov't underfunding and administrative incompetence." Nobody I know inside the system denies Lorrie Goldstein's observation. It's not some ideological twit's talking point.
I'm not big on vaccine hesitancy, refusal or resistance. Nothing in my record shows me faking respect for the decision not to get vaxxed, unless a serious doctor is advising their patient against it because of health issues. But let's tell the whole truth.
I thought, based on my experience of Polio #Vaccines in the early 60s, that ultimately this is what the world would do to protect everyone. Never occurred to me that I had a right to carry a virus that can hurt you & your family. That's a very big burden I don't want to carry.
We live in a strange world. Really smart people are saying We will just have to live with Covid for the rest of our lives. And so we will just have to live with public health rules/issues (a) masking (b)distancing (c) regular booster shots (d) extremely long waits for surgeries.
So we are told just accept it, deal with it, surrender to it. Why? Well because we can never ensure that enough of the population is vaccinated. Why? Well because we certainly can't mandate vaccinations? Why. Well because of vigorous push back from the anti science crowd.
#BreakingNews: New rules for travel into the U-S may shut down many travel plans during the Christmas/Holiday Season. From the @washingtonpost "The Biden admin is preparing stricter testing requirements for all travelers entering the U-S, including returning Americans,
to curb the spread of the potentially dangerous omicron variant, according to three federal health officials. As part of an enhanced winter covid strategy Biden plans to announce on Thursday, U.S. officials will require everyone entering the country to be tested
one day before boarding flights, regardless of their vaccination status or country of departure. Administration officials are also considering a requirement that all travelers get retested within three to five days of arrival.
Reading over the wknd that in one of the most highly educated nations on earth, Austria, only 65% of the people are fully vaccinated. Seems far right politics is effective at disseminating the same disinformation that contaminates too many Canadians.
If the far right can stop millions from saving their own lives w vaccines, what can't they stop? And if the majorities in our many educated societies don't take disinformation campaigns seriously, what has to happen to make them understand how much this threatens democracy?
We shouldn't need an international summit to teach us that the fastest way to destroy democracy is to continue to believe that we need to respect all who express an opinion. Why offer respect to those who have wittingly or unwittingly been recruited by the disinformation army?
Thread from @JessLReid "Like so many Canadians, I grew up consuming dairy, believing it to be an essential food. I never considered where it came from, beyond the cow who obviously just made milk for people."
"But undercover footage from an organic dairy farm in B.C., recently obtained and published by Animal Justice, exposed what I learned later in life: cows don’t make milk for us, they make it for their babies."
"And as part of standard farming practices, those newborn calves must be removed from their mothers in order for that milk to be rerouted for human consumption."
There has never been a day when I haven't been proud to be Canadian. But on this day, September 25, 2021, I am particularly proud of my country that refused to forget the names of two ordinary Canadians, Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig, the two #Michaels
who 1000 days ago were in the wrong place at the wrong time, taken by force and deprived of their human rights by the regime in Beijing that stole their freedom, put them in solitary confinement, forced them to endure a sham trial -convicted them for crimes they never committed.
Indeed the convictions themselves were crimes that continue to go unpunished in a world where expectations are low of countries governed by those who without the capacity to care about morality & humanity, only ideology & power. But on this day, Saturday, September 25th, 2021,
