1/8 Today, Palestinian HR and civil society orgs. - @Addameer, @alhaq_org , @BisanResearch, @DCIPalestine, and UPWC submitted an objection against the Israeli Military Commander’s decision to declare them as “unlawful associations”, demanding its immediate cancellation.

2/8 The objection, submitted by the orgs’ legal team – Adalah, the offices of Attorneys Michael Sfard @sfardm and Attorney Jawad Boulus, was filed after the commander’s repeated refusal to reveal the alleged “evidence” against the organizations. More info bit.ly/3HrCyVR

The main arguments against the declarations are>>

4/8 No due process: The declarations are based solely on secret evidence. The military commander announced that he will not provide the organizations with the “core” of the material against them, and thus, they cannot defend themselves, amounting to a total denial of due process.

5/8 Conflict of interest: The objection process is tainted by a conflict of interest, as the Military Commander who issued the decision will also decide on the objection. Thus, there is no neutral and independent review.

6/8 No evidence: The military did not present evidence connecting the organizations with any illegal activities or publications, illegitimate engagements, or the misuse of funds. The orgs stress that this material has not been provided because it does not exist.

7/8 Violation of the rule of law: The Military Commander operated without legal authority. Declaring an org. as an "unlawful association" is conditioned upon an order of the Defense Minister. This procedure no longer exists in Israeli law.

8/8 The orgs stress that the declarations are a blatant violation of international law, denying the Palestinian people the realization of even the minimal elements of self-determination. The declarations are a politically-motivated attack on Palestinian human rights defenders.
