Long post about a personal and horrifying experience with Dr. Shehan Williams, a so called consultant psychiatrist.

I accompanied my friend on Thursday evening (03rd February 2022) to Nawaloka Hospital for a consultation as he has been suffering from depression.

Our number was 17 and the time given was 8.40 pm but as it was our first appointment with this doctor, so I told him lets go a bit early just in case.
So, we walked into the hospital at around 7.30 pm. There was no nurse near the channelling room.

So I walked up to the nurses station and asked the nurse what the ongoing number was.
She said they are taking patients on how they walk in and not based on the appointment number.
Despite having the digital screens, the ongoing number was not displayed.

Also people seem to just keep walking in to the consultation room in an ad hoc manner.

So I went up to her again around 8.30 and asked what the number was. She then asked me for our number and when I said it was 17 she said there is time so to wait. So we waited.

Around 9.30 pm when she came towards the channeling room, I asked again what the number was, then she checked our number and said after patient 16 we can go.

My friend then turned to her and said the hospital should have a better system in place.

and if they displayed the number on the screen like other hospitals it will be easier for all of us and we won't have to keep walking to the nurse's station to ask when our turn was. When it was our turn to walk in for the consultation, the nurse Kanchana Dilrukshi walked in.

She came out about 10 minutes later. After which we both walked in, and as we sat down, the doctor said
"Seems like you'll have a problem with me."
We then explained we did not have a problem with him but only had a problem with the hospital because they dont have a proper system

The nurse clearly had done a sob story to him or he may have had a soft corner for her, because he was more concerned about her than the patient who had made an appointment to receive treatment for severe depression.

He then very rudely said he can take as long as possible to consult a patient, to which we agreed and again reiterated we never had an issue about the timing he took to consult, and tried explaining again the issue we had was with the horrible system in place at Nawaloka Hospital

Then he said "But, you can't shout at this girl, so because of that, I am not going to treat you, and you should go to another doctor. I am going to refund the consultation fee and you'll leave."

I got pissed and I said as a physiatrist you really need to understand your job role more because you can't refuse to treat a patient just because we found fault with the awful system in place at the hospital.

He then rang a bell and asked the security to come and throw me and my friend out of the channeling room.
Unfortunately for him, that wasn't going to happen and we sat stubbornly inside the room, and then the doctor himself walked out of the channeling room.

I don't know about your personal experience or what you have heard about Shehan Williams the psycho doctor, but all I can say is psychiatrists needs to be more careful on how they treat patients.

Imagine if my friend was suicidal or was on the verge of a nervous breakdown, and the way the doctor acted today, what if he committed suicide?

Who will be responsible then?

Shehan Williams doesn't deserve to be called a doctor. He acted with zero professionalism. He also clearly needs to get a psychological evaluation before he treats patients.
