"A midterm strategy based on criticizing the President and performative demonstrations of distance will have the opposite effect. These moments will weaken Biden and weakness makes our chances of winning reelection worse, not better." - @danpfeiffer
In 2022, our top strategic imperative is to reconstitute the coalition that took the House in 2018 & the WH & Senate in 2020. It’s hard to see how running away from or trashing the Democratic President is a good way to accomplish that goal - @danpfeiffer
As @danpfeiffer notes, running away from Biden is impractical and stupid: "By seeking out distance from Biden, Democrats will get all of the downsides and none of the upsides of the President."
I hope candidates learn the lesson from 2010 when Democrats who distanced themselves from Obama lost their races big-time, versus the likes of Tom Periello, who ran WITH Obama in a difficult district. Although he lost, OVERPERFORMED most Dems.
As @danpfeiffer wisely notes, "criticizing & weakening a President who 8 in 10 of our most reliable voters support is a terrible way to achieve our goal" of winning the midterms.
You know what is insanity? Watching Republicans destroy this country cycle after cycle, to the point democracy itself is on the brink, & privileged people like you threatening to withhold your vote. There is only 1 pro-America team in town & it is the Democrats. #VoteBlueIn2022
Election after election, there is always some privileged fool with their cynical bullshit about no one earning their vote. They are part of the vote suppression caucus & they're doing the tacit dirty work of the GOP. if you're not #votingBluein2022, you are part of the problem.
I write about elections across the world for a living where people risk life & limb to exercise the right to vote, hoping that one day, they will get their democracy dividend. And so they show up to vote.
On Oct 3 2021, the writer of this article went after Biden who was visiting the graves of his children. Now she's claiming Biden, who buried 2 children & a wife, "uses" funerals for political utility. Annie Linskey remains a terrible person with no empathy for people who grieve.
I would note that the actual article by Linksey is more nuanced than the actual summary disseminated by the Washington Post on Twitter. As a newspaper of record, one would expect better. As for the journalist, most of us cannot forget this. He went to see the graves of his kids!
One wonders about journalists who are more interested in an angle & a story, than about the fact that death devastates us, grief mires us, & we have a president who understands that-- especially at a time of pandemic when death is a daily reminder.
Kevin McCarthy's hack speech on the House floor is lasting longer than some of my marriages.
LOL, McCarthy is comparing Biden's presidency to Carter's. Dude. Biden is the modern FDR.
- American Rescue Plan, BIF, & now BBB to be passed
- US econ added 531K jobs in Oct in rebound from Sept
- Unemployment from 6.3% in Jan to 4.6%
- 80% of jobs lost in pandemic recovered
McCarthy is giving the GOP greatest hits -- he's now crying about us being out of Afghanistan, as if Trump didn't sign the withdrawal agreement; there was also Green new Deal, the border, masks....This is why booze was made.
The CBO score shows that BBB will DECREASE the deficit. As well, leading rating agencies have said that BBB will not add to inflationary pressures. As such there is NO reason not to pass President Biden's BBB agenda.
The only reasons one would have for NOT passing BBB are that you want President Biden's agenda to fail irrespective of how it HELPS America & you don't want to tax the rich.
Don't fall for any sudden concern about debt & deficits by the GOP. Those fuckers passed the biggest tax scam bill-a vulgar transfer of wealth from working people to the scandalously-rich donor class without a thought to borrowed $. They just need to STFU.
We have a red alert suburban coalition crisis on our hards. As @danpfeiffer notes, without Trump on the ballot, Republicans are winning back Romney-Clinton voters faster than Democrats are winning back Obama-Trump voters or finding new voters. messagebox.substack.com/p/early-though…
We don't have a complacency problem. Turnout was high last night on both sides. Youngkin won because he convinced enough Biden and Northam voters to switch sides. Job 1 for Democrats must be getting these voters back without depressing the base.
As @danpfeiffer warns, there is no math that gives Democrats the House, Senate, or WH without winning these voters back AND holding our base intact. Furthermore, "this goal doesn’t rely on turnout or persuasion. It relies on both."
