CMD has learned that model bill was introduced at an ALEC EEA Task Force subcommittee meeting by Michigan Rep. Phil Green (R) on Nov. 19. I reached out to his office for comment but haven’t received a response.

Indiana’s HB 1224, introduced on Jan. 6, has three authors, including Rep. Bob Heaton, who is a documented member of ALEC. In the bill’s first hearing, Brian Cantrell, senior VP and chief financial officer for Alliance Resource Partners testified in favor of the bill.

Alliance Resource Partners, a private sector member of ALEC, had two lobbyists registered at the EEA Task Force meeting when the Energy Discrimination Elimination Act passed, an attendee list obtained by CMD details.

Also on the list is ALEC member Sen. Mark Maynard, a sponsor of West Virginia’s SB 255 and SB 262, who attended the December EEA Task Force meeting, in which he voted in favor of the ALEC model.

Louisiana’s HB 25 was introduced by ALEC-tied Rep. Danny McCormick on Jan. 26 and has yet to see a hearing.

Sen. Michael Bergstrom, who has attended ALEC meetings, introduced Oklahoma’s SB 1572 on Jan. 20, and it is also awaiting a hearing.

The registered attendees list for the EEA Task Force meeting where the Energy Discrimination Elimination Act passed included lobbyists from Charles Koch’s Americans for Prosperity Foundation and Koch Companies Public Sector, American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers, & more.
