not everyone has experienced a scene growing in prominence/significance so I think it might be worth taking a moment to talk out loud about it so that people can consider it and think about what they want

it’s very difficult if not impossible to have some kind of scene in a public space that does some kind of interesting/important work without getting the attention of the wider world around it. reflect on this, really consider about it, because it will inform your choices

maximising both interestingness and privacy is very difficult to do. interestingness tends to require interfacing with as much of reality as possible. there *are* certainly pockets of deep interestingness that are cloistered-hidden, but by definition, you won’t find them randomly

I know some people are grumpy about having their little favorite cozy corner suddenly be swamped by outsiders. It’s annoying, I get it. But you do also have to understand… if you didn’t want this, you shouldn’t have been public

This is tricky stuff to talk about in plaintext. There’s how things are, and how things ought to be. I do wish we had a really thoughtful global public commons that knew how to be patient, respectful, etc. I’m working on it!! It’s my life’s task! But also…

it’s worth taking the time to think in advance about the precise level of exposure to public that you want, and to calibrate your public utterances accordingly

This is more work than most people bother to do, fair enough, but I think it’s worth articulating for people who haven’t thought about it
