1/ I interviewed @TenderClaws creators of VIRTUAL VIRTUAL REALITY 2 on their creative process, many immersive storytelling innovations, unique structure, weird indie art aesthetic, amazing music, & ability to manufacture serendipity. voicesofvr.com/1056-virtual-v…
THREAD of reviews👇
2/ I really, really quite enjoyed my 15-20 hours of playthrough. There were a number of game-breaking bugs that extended my play time, which hopefully many will be addressed in future updates in 2 weeks.
3/ I'm going to read, watch, & aggregate other reviews of @TenderClaws' VVR2 in this thread as others unpack this experience.
I see it as a landmark piece of immersive storytelling & I'm curious to see the VR community's reaction it.
4/ Here's a review from @EricPresidentVR who characterizes it as a very unique experience filled with awe & wonder, imagination, & whacky fun, but it sounds like he vibed a bit more with the over experience of VVR1 than VVR2:
5/ @UploadVR's Harry Baker is holding off of their full review of @TenderClaws' Virtual Virtual Reality 2 for a few weeks to wait for a number game breaking bugs to get fixed. I also experienced a number of these as well.
See 15-min of 1st impressions here
6/ @BeardoBenjoYT does a playthrough of VVR2 focusing primarily on the gameplay interactions, which overall is too weird for him.
It is more of an immersive story, but he's not very interested in the characters, story, or dialogue.
7/ Here's @UploadVR's preliminary review of VVR2 describing the narrative innovations, gameplay mechanics, and some game breaking bugs.
Having to restart a chapter due to a bug can certainly be annoying & hopefully these will be resolved in a few weeks. uploadvr.com/virtual-virtua…
8/ VR gamer @RhysDaKing's VVR2 playthrough & snap judgment review after 2hrs "Get in the game for the weirdest trip of your life, & expect a bit of chittity chat but also expect some really solid, fun mechanics to play around with."
9/ A short & well-written preliminary 1st impression from @6dofreviews, who understands & appreciates @TenderClaws previous work.
He also faced some game-breaking bugs & will be waiting for the next update before giving full review:
@6dofreviews@TenderClaws 10/ @Disco_VR does a VVR2 playthrough & review saying calling it the most bizarre & chaotic VR experience she's ever had, a trippy VR dream, but with too much dialogue which overall felt too random & a particular style not for her:
11/ There's a number of VR YouTubers who did some playthrough highlights & reactions of Virtual Virtual Reality 2, but no review or many overall impressions.
12/ Some of the publications may be withholding their final review for Virtual Virtual Reality 2 until after some of the bug fixes land in a couple of weeks.
1/ @ebakerwhite's had 19 unanswered questions on @Meta's VR content moderation policies, so @BuzzFeedNews built a Horizon World containing content that got banned on FB & Instagram.
They reported it, but wasn't removed.
Then asked Comms & Meta removed it: buzzfeednews.com/article/emilyb…
3/ I think some of Meta's existing content moderation issues will be replicated in VR, especially regarding Facebook Groups.
But I do think the network effects of going viral on 2D platforms are & will be different with immersive, 3D Horizon VR worlds
Odd update by @Frooxius: "any statements by [co-founder & CEO @karelhulec] or the official [@neos_vr] Twitter during this period do not reflect my views, or the views of the rest of my team, regarding the values & future of this platform"

The neos-discussions & neos-credits-ncr
channels on @Neos_vr Discord have the latest speculation from community members with many puzzled as to what's up. discord.com/channels/40215…
3/ Lots of additional context from @qDot, who documented how @Neos_VR Patreon was giving supporters reward allotments of $NCR cryptocurrency.
But a price spike $NCR allowed folks to turn a quick profit, likely led to a sell off tanking the overall price.
This is the first time that they're breaking out their XR costs with Reality Labs Operating Loss, which looks like it's been around $12.293B over the last 5 quarters.
I'll try to capture other XR news👇
2/ The $FB stock is getting hit hard in after hours market trading dropping 22% for missing earnings projections. marketwatch.com/story/meta-sha…
3/ I believe there's some new historic data for how much revenue & income loss @meta had with @RealityLabs over the past 3 years:
2019 XR Revenue $501M & Income (loss) of ($4.503B).
2020 XR Revenue $1.139B & ($6.623B).
2021 XR Revenue $2.274B & ($10.193B). s21.q4cdn.com/399680738/file…
1/ I agree with @washingtonpost tech journalist @WillOremus that we haven't achieved an interoperable Metaverse yet, but I disagree with his assessment that we won't anytime soon as it depends on how you define a minimal viable Metaverse.
It's one of the more comprehensive mappings, although it lacks a comprehensive ethical framework as a part of the Design Guidelines or human rights in the Law.
3/ @Meta's approach to the metaverse emphasizes Interoperability, & they do actually have OpenXR + WebXR implementations, which @WillOremus ignores.
They also claim to be prioritizing Privacy, but only according to their narrow definition of consent-based control of information.
2/ Here's the agenda for today:
10a PDT #Connect2021 Keynote
11:20a: A bunch of developer sessions go live (presumably pre-recorded)
11:45a Developer State of the Union
2p Connect with @ID_AA_Carmack
5p Spacewalk from the ISS (sneak peak of VR Spacewalk)
1/ Short thread on 12k @pimaxofficial Reality Series announced:
$2,399 coming Q4 2022
QLED (combines OLED+LED)
1200 PPI
35 PPD
200Hz
Foveated Rendering via Tobii eye tracking
Full-body & facial expression tracking
Standalone with split rendering with XR2
2/ The 12K Pimax Reality Series feels like a VR headset that you'd create if you jammed every single VR enthusiast feature in without any concern for weight or cost.
How will it feel?
It'll have 200-degree horizonal FOV, with 135-degree vertical FOV & a 118-degree binocular FOV.
3/ Whenever you have that big of a field of view on a VR HMD, then it inevitably has some distortion. @pimaxofficial claims to have both a new patented anti-distortion algorithm, new bionic lens, & foveated rendering powered by Tobii eye tracking.
We'll wait & see how it feels.
