LZ talked about how a lot of Chinese foreigners used to come into his store for help because they knew LZ could speak Chinese and even though they didn’t buy anything LZ would still help them out, but as time went on, he figured out that whenever these foreign students would+
+go back home, they would usually bring their families gifts like beauty products and such and even if the price was higher and there was a lot of competition, the people he helped would bring all their friends to his store bc they remembered how Laozhang helped them

Next OP said over the LNY they tried cooking a new dish and said they’re someone who doesn’t look at instructions/manuals, so they just scanned the instructions and went ahead. They were concerned it would taste bad, but after 6 hours, the flavor was pretty good
LZ said he’s not someone to follow instructions/manuals exactly and said he’ll look at them, but also have his own thoughts/methods, but there are some things that you do have to read in more detail esp if their instructions are learnings/tips after a lot of trial and error
