The rights of trans youth are still under attack in the United States. Here's a thread of today's updates. 🧵
Indiana HB1041 added Representative Dennis Kruse as a cosponsor and has a hearing on 2/16 at 2:30 pm EST. This is an anti-trans sports bill that would mandate that school athletics be separated based on "biological sex". The bill is unclear as to how this is to be determined.
South Carolina HB4608 added Representative John Taliaferro "Jay" West as a cosponsor. This bill is an anti-trans sports bill that would mandate school athletics be divided by "biological sex" as determined by original birth certificate.
Kentucky SB83 had two amendments filed. This bill is an anti-trans sports bill that would divide school athletics based on "biological sex". The bill does not define "biological sex" or determine how "biological sex" is to be determined, opening the doors to sexual abuse.
Kentucky HB495 was introduced. This bill is a "religious freedom" bill that allows for descrimination based on "sincerely held religious belief". This applies to marriage, employment, housing, foster care, goods and services, dress codes, conduct codes and more.
Kentucky HB495 also explicitly defines sex as being "immutable" and "objectively determined at birth" (both of which are scientifically inaccurate). This bill is incredibly dangerous not only for trans youth, but for LGBT+ people in general.
It's not too late to stop these and other hateful bills. Please go to transformationsproject.org to learn about anti-trans bills in your state and to contact your representatives to #StepUpForTransKids!

So we say anti-trans bills, but I want to discuss a bit what these bills actually entail, with maps to show exactly which states are considering which types of bills.
One of the largest classes of these bills is anti-trans sports bills. These bills try to mandate that participation in athletics be divided by "biological sex". Many of them specifically prohibit trans girls from playing on girls athletics teams.
