New from me. As tensions ramp up, disclosures from CIA front group the NED show it has spent $22.4m in 🇺🇦 since 2014, funding pro-west media, pro-west political parties and pushing through a massive privatisation campaign to benefit western corporations.
The NED is funding a network of hawkish media outlets in🇺🇦, who are often used to launder nat sec talking points back into American life. Their status as Ukrainian orgs gives them a cache, but it is rarely, if ever, revealed that they’re directly in the pay of the US govt.
A key target for the NED is the eastern, Russian-speaking Donbas area. The word “Donbas” is mentioned in 52 times in the short grant summaries, while “eastern" Ukraine is referred to over 100 times. In other words, they’re flooding the region with pro-US propaganda.
According to its 2019 annual report, the NED considers Ukraine its “top priority” thanks to its “size and importance for the Europe region”.
Essentially, it's trying to pull Ukraine away from Russian influence and into US influence. It does this by funding anti-Russia voices.
Who are the NED? It's a “private” organization set up by Reagan in 1983 as a CIA front group in the wake of CIA scandals. This “private” org is staffed with Nat Sec agents and funded by DC. “A lot of what we do today was done covertly 25 years ago by the CIA” said its cofounder.
The NED is the US govt's primary regime change arm. All NED's work is couched in the language of "democracy promotion".
Yet they've never carried out a single project in Saudi Arabia or any of the pro-US Gulf dictatorships. They work primarily in states the US doesn't like.
Meanwhile, in Belarus, the NED has 40 active projects on the go. The NED's Europe Chief was caught stating that her organization played a "significant" role in organizing the nationwide protests against President Lukashenko last year.
.@kennardmatt spoke with @Lowkey0nline about how the NED is used to export obedience to US empire all around the world, and how it's even active in the UK.
US prisoners are crucial to helping the war machine function, with slave prison labor producing parts for Patriot missiles, F-15 and F-16 jets, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, plus uniforms for all three major branches of the military.
Americans are locked up at a rate unseen anywhere else in the world. Prisoners are paid as little as $0.23 per hour, helping corporate America compete with hyper exploited Asian swetshop labor. It also helps union bust and drive down wages of others.
Hello, operator? Get me Edward Saïd's number, fast!
Wow, where could they ever have got that idea from?
Western corporate media (including the @NYTimes, @washingtonpost and @Reuters) have, for years now, been fearmongering about the Chinese and Russian vaccines in an attempt to stop the world taking them up.
The think tank— the Australian Stretegic Partnership Initiative (ASPI) — have already deleted hundreds of thousands of Chinese, Russian, & Iranian accounts, and consider chellenging Western govt narratives about these countries as evidence enough for permabans.
ASPI is directly funded by Western governments and by the arms industry, and pumps out relentless pro-war propaganda on their website.
Around half of its executive council also sit on the boards of weapons giants, sparking a ludicrous conflict of interests.
When asked about the country, USAID chief Samantha Power (one of the architects of the Libya disaster) said that “every option is on the table” - a codeword for war.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken refused to rule out sends troops into Tigray when directly asked at the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
[Thread] The OTF, the group that helps make so many of the net's favorite privacy apps, including Signal and Tor, is full of national security state plants.
@MintPressNews The OTF talks about Internet freedom a lot.
But when it comes down to it, their idea of "freedom" means the freedom for the US govt to spam people around the world with Radio Free Asia and Voice of America content.
@MintPressNews Every member of the OTF's board was a high-level govt functionary, including ambassadors, PNAC neocons and Iraq and Afghan war planners.
Is this really the sort of organization we can trust to make our privacy apps?
Is it really a coincidence that as soon as the US pulled out of Afghanistan, the domestic American heroin supply has dried up? 🤔🇦🇫
We know, for instance, that the CIA ran the crack trade in the 1980s, and even intentionally introduced it to black communities across the US, using the money to fund death squads in Latin America.
