📍FDA issues recall of 3 infant formula brands after 4 babies became sick & hospitalized with bacterial infections after consuming select Similac, Alimentum & EleCare formulas produced in Michigan with product digits 22 through 37, & contains K8, SH or Z2.

2) The FDA had posted a recommendation on Thursday to parents warning them about the products after illnesses in Minnesota, Ohio & Texas resulted in the hospitalization of four infants. The bacterium may have contributed to a death in one case, FDA says. fda.gov/news-events/pr…

3) FDA initiated an inspection of the plant in which environmental samples tested positive for Cronobacter. Inspectors also uncovered potential manufacturing problems, and a review of records revealed the company’s past destruction of product because of bacterial contamination.

4) Recalled Similac, Alimentum or EleCare powdered infant formulas can be identified by the seven- to nine-digit code and expiration date on the bottom of the package—first 2 digits are 22 through 37, the code contains K8, SH, or Z2, & expiration date is April 1, 2022, or later.

5) U.S. Food and Drug Administration
Frank Yiannas, the F.D.A. deputy commissioner for food policy and response, said he was “deeply concerned” about the reports, since formula is a “product used as the sole source of nutrition for many of our nation’s newborns and infants.”
