Thread: Social media platforms that allow hoaxes to trend are despicable.
HM Queen Elizabeth of the UK and her other realms (eg NZ), is alive and following doctor's orders to rest.
Whenever she eventually dies, go to bbc.com for the actual truth about it.
Also, it's really weird when ppl refer to the Queen as Queen Elizabeth. It's not incorrect, I know she's not the only (actual, lawful) Queen in the world, but she's always referred to as the Queen here.
"The Queen" will also be how we refer to Queen Camilla & Queen Catherine.
No, Twitter, this headline doesn't fix the problem.
I suggest, at the top of the list, for at least 12 hours, you should say:
"Queen Elizabeth is alive. Reports of her death at this time are a hoax."
We had to watch this happening for years with Prince Philip.
We all know by now that Twitter is able to edit the trends it publishes. Death hoaxes are only able to trend on that list if Twitter allows them to.
It causes genuine distress to some members of the public. Twitter is not showing corporate responsibility.
According to official media releases, based on info the Queen has asked her Dr to provide, she has a mild case of Covid & is recovering well.
Despite her age, she has a good chance of recovering without the need for hospitalization, or concerns about her life being in danger.
I seriously doubt the Queen, her son, or anyone else in charge of official media releases there, would allow the facts to be distorted or lied about in those releases.
All that's happened is that she canceled some video calls for today (only).
If I had the level of *mild* symptoms she has rn, I wouldn't want to appear in public on video calls, either. There is a certain level of decorum applicable to the Queen at times like this.
And they're not going to trot out a rep every day to give further details to media.
There's nothing to see here, certainly if you accept the info provided already. Which I am sure most British people do, along with their government and opposition MPs.
If that changes, you will know within about 15 minutes at the BBC (or ITV) website.
LOL, Twitter keeps changing what it allows or says about this subject in their top 10 US trends list.
A missed opportunity to provide an informative comment to their audience that bullshit hoaxes like this will become a daily occurrence until HM is seen out in public again, and
... that bullshit hoaxes about the Queen and her family will only increase in frequency until she eventually does pass away.
Then the nasty, politicized, bullshit commentary about each of the coming monarchs will continue, apace.
I'm certain that if she & her Drs thought for one moment that her catching this variant at this time would risk her life, she'd have stayed in her strict self imposed lockdown.
Thanks to vaccines, therapies, her good health, & the nature of the variant, she ended her lockdown.
Because at this stage of the pandemic, individuals, households, and other entities can and should make individualized decisions about the level of risk mitigation that's right for them AT THE TIME.
Where I am, I'm on strict self imposed lockdown, to help flatten the curve.
Because science.
I rely on science for almost everything in life, including Covid.
And so does the Queen, her son and elder grandson, her government, and most of the UK.
Most of the egregious misinfo and disinfo about Covid (from day one) could have been reduced if major media companies like Twitter and Facebook had used genuine, well designed, corporately responsible editorial and operational protocols.
Unnecessary deaths & harm resulted.
I can cope with thinking about the unavoidable Covid deaths and other harm in the world that this literal natural disaster caused and causes.
I will NEVER accept that I should feel the same way about those that were avoidable. (And quite easily avoidable in some cases.)

Ukrainian President Zelensky's comments tonight after Moscow unlawfully recognized Donetsk and Luhansk were stirring and inspiring.🕊️ 🇺🇦
Read an English translation below:
"There are no reasons for your sleepless night. We are on our land, we are not afraid of anyone or anything and we will not give anything to anyone. It’s not February 2014, but February 2022. We are sure of that.
"Recognition of the independence of the occupied areas of Donbass may mean a unilateral withdrawal from the Minsk agreements. Ukraine's internationally recognized borders will remain the same despite Russia's actions. We intend to solve everything diplomatically.
The issue is both political and personal. I survived a series of events over several decades and am now in a position to offer insights to others. The same healing process is directly relevant to world politics, too.

Thread: Updates on the marvelous #PlatinumJubilee year of my head of state, HM the Queen.
I've written many threads in recent years about the shenanigans of certain recalcitrant family members. This time I bring concerning news of potential exposure to Covid.😟
Obviously I send get well soon wishes for Charles (and Camilla, who is likely to also test positive.)
I'm fiercely loyal the Queen, and Charles, and William. And their consorts were and are incredible, loved, and respected people too.
That color photo above is recent and was released to mark the anniversary of 70 years on the throne, on February 6 this year.
HM is thriving like never before, and she turns 96 on April 21, 2022. The Queen's Birthday celebrations in June each year are timed for summer.
If I know someone has committed or is committing a crime, and I choose asking them nicely not to, instead of reporting it to law enforcement, I would be complicit in that crime.
Yet this is the narrative Ivanka Trump is trying to sell people. That she did all she could.
Everyone in the administration who had knowledge of what the defeated former president planned and carried out that day had a duty to report it *at the time* and to *fully* and voluntarily cooperate with any and all law enforcement and Congressional investigative bodies.
Thread: I find this hilarious on many levels. TFG is so clueless about business and politics that he thought tearing up a piece of paper at his desk would keep said paper out of the the National Archives, the courtroom, and the public domain.🤣
It's not all that different from Nixon choosing to record his own conversations as some kind of insurance policy then being forced to hand them to investigators. He even had his secretary claim she accidentally recorded over certain key parts.
Criminals are DUMB.
I've seen people in places I've worked pointlessly tear up paper before putting it in the bin under their desk. It was a sign not to trust them with anything important. My own shredding went through the shredder by my own hand.
Thread: Whoopi Goldberg's lack of education concerning racism
The thing that bothers me the most about her many attempts at clarifying what she said, is that her attitude is just to accept what her critics have said that "corrects" her view.
That is so intellectually lazy.
I think Whoopi Goldberg said this to get the criticism to stop.
What we actually want her to do is spend at least 100 hours quietly studying the facts about the Holocaust and at least 100 hours quietly studying current academic definitions of racism in general.
I spent way more than that number of hours studying these topics in recent years. My reason was so that I could *understand* the issues more deeply & be able to have more informed independent thinking about them.
