Latest military situation in Ukraine.

The situation is becoming critical in Ukraine's south. Russian Forces entered Kherson and encircled Mariupol. The situation on the other fronts remains rather stable.
Southern front looks like this at the moment.

Russian forces entered Kherson and met only minor resistance. The city was guarded by local Territorial Defense Unit and Ukrainian Army most likely withdrew from the town in the morning.
Russian forces reached the train station inside the city and de-facto gained control of Kherson.

Still no updates from Ukrainian Armed Forces regarding this area.
In Mykolaiv area, Russian units spearheaded north, seized Yavkyne and reached Bashtanka.

If we look at latest photos, we'll see a several damaged and abandoned trucks as well as BTR-80 in the town, which might indicate a rear element.
Russia's spearheading force most likely continues north towards Novyi Buh or trying to encircle Mykolaiv.
Meanwhile...

Tokmak saw heavy clashes during the day. In the afternoon, Ukrainian forces announced they drove out Russians from the town.

Ukrainian servicemen also blew up a bridge in Vasylivka.
This is how things look in Northern frontline.

In Kyiv area, Russian military column was destroyed in Borodianka today. There hasn’t been reported any progress by either side. The big Russian convoy, consisting of hundreds of tanks, trucks and APCs is still on its way to Kyiv.
In Chernihiv area, Ukrainian official announced the first Belarusian soldiers crossed the Ukrainian border and joined the fight alongside Russian forces.

However, it didn’t change the situation around Chernihiv. Ukrainian forces continue to hold the town.
In Ichnia area, Russian spearheading element reach Bobrovytsia and is around 100 km from Kyiv.

If Ukrainian forces won’t counter-attack in the night and push Russians out of the area, the forces in Chernihiv might be encircled and Kyiv surrounded from two sides.
There is also several abandoned Russian vehicles in this area due to not enough fuel.
As for the Eastern frontline, the city of Sumy was shelled during the day, but Russian forces didn’t gain any new ground.

There are very likely some Russian elements moving around the region, but no footage is available so far.
Kharkiv was heavy shelled by all kinds of Russian artillery during the day. No movement or new gains reported in this area.

In the evening, Russian units heavy shelled the town of Chuhuiv near Kharkiv. There is an airfield and base of 92nd Mechanized Brigade.
Donbas area is next.

In Luhansk area, Russian units advanced north and captured Starobilsk. They met no resistance in the town.

It’s currently unknown if there are still Ukrainian units in Bilovodsk, but the town is is very likely to be empty.
In Donetsk area, Russian forces captured Shyrokyne and Staryi Krym close to Mariupol.

The Russian units from the east pushed south, and they claim that they linked up with the Russian forces from the west. Lack of footage hints that likely Mariupol has been encircled.
If Ukrainian forces didn’t withdraw its troops from Mariupol, the following units are now besieged:

* 36th Marines Brigade
* Mechanized brigade (probably 56th Mechanized Brigade)
* Battalion of Azov Regiment
* 12th Operational Brigade of Ukrainian National Guard

Thread. Vafa Guluzade, a former national security adviser for Azerbaijan who worked with three of that country’s first presidents.

He was considered a tough and stubborn negotiator, and he held strong opinions on a number of issues, especially on the Kremlin. #Ukraine Image
Guluzade was widely respected for his principled positions and dignified demeanor.

In 2014, he gave an interview to Radio Liberty on Russia and Ukraine so I've decided to post some interesting bits from it since it touches a lot of stuff on Ukraine and Russia.
Vafa Guluzade:

"Azerbaijanis in general and, I am sure, the authorities also have sympathy for Ukraine and want it to be an independent state, not a vassal territory of Russia."

Russian forces appeared to be moving to cut Ukraine off from the sea via its key southern ports.

Kherson is under Russian control, the siege of Mariupol on its way, as a large amphibious taskforce threatened Odessa to the west.
Cutting Ukraine’s access to its coast would deal a significant blow to the country’s economy and allow Russian forces to build a land corridor stretching from its border, across Crimea, which has been under Russian control since 2014, and all the way west to Romania.
Another key target for Russian forces in the south east is the Zaporizhzhia and its nuclear power plant in south-eastern Ukraine, Europe’s biggest, where Russian units were trying to break through a barricade to the plant erected by local residents and territorial defence forces.

Southern front

If Kyiv falls, it is still not clear what Moscow would do with Ukraine.

Splitting up the country is most likely scenario but it comes with its own challenges.
Yes, Russian forces technically can implement a split, but do Russia has the capacity and wherewithal to enforce it beyond the short run, given Russian Armed Forces arrayed at this point?
The huge challenge for Russia is having in suppressing resistance in/around cities like Kharkiv.

A split – possibly along the Dniepr River – remains a possibility,
