Several rockets targeted the maternity hospital in Mariupol. Just look at the craters.
Today, I attended an emergency online conference of 🇺🇦 mayors from Mariupol, Kharkiv, Trostianets (Sumy region), Merefa (Kharkiv region), and Zhytomyr organized by the Ministry for Regional Development. What the mayors reported raises alarms on many different levels. A small 🧵
Sergej Orlov, deputy mayor of Mariupol, said that we witness is a "medieval siege" and he emphasized that the humanitarian situation is getting worse every day. For several days, the city is cut-off and there is no heating, water, gas, or proper food and medicine supply. /1
Citizens of Mariupol are hungry and use any wood they find to cook and to melt snow to drink. 3000 babies are deprived of food and will soon need medical attention. About 300,000 citizens remain trapped in the middle of this brutal siege. /2
To laugh or to cry? Russia's tasks include "neither the occupation of Ukraine, nor the destruction of its statehood, nor the overthrow of the current government", says the spokesperson of the Russian MFA. pravda.com.ua/rus/news/2022/…
The blatant lies just keep piling up. How about the unfounded genocide claims or the nazi leadership of the country (a democratically elected Jewish president). Putin recently said that no conscripts are sent into #Ukraine, even though several dozens of young conscripts are POWs.
More of peaceful pro-🇺🇦 protests in occupied southern Ukrainian Kherson…
Just look at these people. Their city is occupied but they resist. Every day people smaller and larger groups pour on to the streets and main square (!) of Kherson to show the Russian occupiers that they are not welcome…

More protests reported. These citizens are protesting in Enerhodar in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Day 12 of Russia’s war against #Ukraine. Humanitarian situation worsens in Mariupol and some other besieged towns in the east. Humanitarian evacuations there failed yesterday because of shelling by the Russian forces. /1
Despite heavy fighting in the past days, Kharkiv is not yet surrounded. A 🇺🇦 official said that a first bigger attempt to surround and occupy Kyiv is now imminent. /2
The night was relatively quiet in most mayor cities with the exception of Mykolaiv, which was severely shelled at night. Yesterday, Russia hit and completely destroyed the airport of Vinnytsia in central Ukraine using Kalibr cruise missiles launched from the Black Sea. /3
Chilling update from Mariupol's deputy mayor Sergey Orlov on CNN. He spoke of 26h uninterrupted shelling by all types of weaponry. The city is surrounded by Russian forces on ALL sides. For 1.5 days there is no heating, electricity, water. He warns of a humanitarian crisis. /1
When asked how many civilians were killed, Orlov said that it remains unclear because "We cannot collect and count all the dead bodies". Minimum 200 are reported dead.
The army and national guard still defend Mariupol but are awaiting 🇺🇦 military support. /2
Orlov also said that he lost contact with his own parents and relatives (left bank of the city) and that there is very limited cellphone coverage in the city.
When asked what his message to the world is, he said All should know that 🇺🇦 are fighting for freedom, for Europe /3
Update from the southern front: heavy fighting inside of Kherson. Unlike Russian media reports, the city has not fallen. Fighting also near Mykolaiv.
VERY intensive shelling of Mariupol (Donetsk Oblast). Mayor there reports a lot of wounded civilians #Ukraine map from @nytimes
The map above is slightly outdated. Russian forces are already in different areas of Zaporizhia. Waiting for an updated map. What is more recent is information of the RU movements near Kyiv, where we see the first attempts to cut off the resistance in Chernihiv and Sumy from Kyiv
