There was no upside for the Russians in facilitating a serious disinformation op against Biden to stop him becoming President - the Russians knew Biden, his family's corrupt racket & that Biden himself was not what he was ... the Russians esp wanted the last 2 years' calamities.
The Russians collect compromising material on everyone aka kompromat but the Kremlin would never impede foreign VIPs (as compromised by dealings on the Russian periphery like the Bidens) from achieving high office in the US. The Kremlin wants compromised people in high office.
The Hillary/Trump campaign in 2016 had no downside for Russia. Hillary was known to them, employed clownish advisors & Bill had trousered $$$ from Russian banks. As for Trump, he sold overpriced real estate to Russian oligarchs & was a neophyte enough to hire Paul Manafort.
The main Russian objective - since the Tsarist Ohkrana - is causing chaos in the adversary's domestic realm by sowing divisions and sowing enough truth amid its lies. I have mentioned before Josef Konrad's The Secret Agent. You were a fool to believe what you were being told.
No one in the Kremlin needed to do anything re Hunter Biden. It was the perfect storm - an obviously not quite 100% presidential candidate plus a family that had been trading off the candidate's career for decades. The corruption & nepotism was obvious to everyone except the MSM.
The Chinese and Iranians have learned all this from the Russians. Do not be surprised by what you learn in the next decade or so about how compromised and bought off (esp in retirement after favours done) are prominent Western politicians & their families by foreign adversaries
None of this is Left/Right as much as politicians/people of influence (of all political persuasions) who are up for sale. Very often they have a divorce or wastrel children or bad business dealings & they need money. They have goods for trade with the Kremlin, Beijing, Tehran etc
