In November 2021, Orynbay Ohasov was sentenced to 1 year of restricted freedom for allegedly "participating in the activities of an extremist organisation" for participating in peaceful protests and criticising the authorities.

Orynbay Ohasov himself denies participating in the peaceful protest. It is worth noting, however, that even if he were to take part in a peaceful protest, it is his constitutional right to do so.
