On 5 January 2022, Fatima Gaziz took part in a peaceful protest in the city of Aktobe to express her views on the situation in the country, on rising prices and living standards, outside the akimat.

The police opened fire with stun grenades from the side of the akimat. Fatima Gaziz was injured and people took her to hospital, where she spent seven days.

There should be an international investigation into the January protests, torture, unlawful prosecution and the shooting of civilians. The right to peaceful assembly is a constitutional right of citizens.
