The authorities opened a politically motivated criminal case against Yerkin Kaziev under Article 380 part 1 ("Use of violence against a representative of the authorities"), but Yerkin Kaziev was not at home.

The police officers refused to identify themselves or show their identification. They entered the house and did not explain anything.

A politically motivated criminal case was opened in connection with the fact that on 4 January 2022, Yerkin Kaziyev, together with other activists, took part in a peaceful march to express solidarity with the peaceful protesters of Zhanaozen and Aktau.

Police officers used force against the civic activists in order to detain them illegally. The Kazakhstani authorities now probably want to arrest Yerkin Kaziyev.

These actions not only contradict Tokayev's claim of "political reforms", but also violate Kazakhstan's international human rights obligations.
