Seems like a whole generation doesn't know that there was an actual revolutionary freedom fighter called #Alluri Sitarama Raju, just a century ago! This image was released by British govt. after he was shot dead in 1924.

Do read up about him! One of Andhra's greatest! 🙏🙏🙏
The 1974 movie starring Krishna in the role of Raju was a super duper hit! It was the 100th movie for Krishna. They would air it on good old @DDNational during Independence or Republic Day.
So @AlwaysRamCharan wasn't the first. I haven't watched #RRRMoive but am told he too dons the role of Raju. Many have confused his character with that of Bhagawan Rama from Ramayana and are shouting "Jai Shri Ram" in videos. Hilarious! 😂
Some illiterate Dravidian idiot has gone ahead and analysed the movie as a medium of bringing in Hindutva into Tamil Nadu! 😂

Endless comedy!

#CannotAbleTo
Way before Krishna, the big man of Telugu cinema, NTR himself acted the role of Raju in a 1955 movie. It flopped. Krishna's movie did far better, in comparison. Krishna also acted brilliant!
When NTR got the Tank Bund built to connect the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad across the Hussain Sagar lake, he installed the statues of all the iconic Telugus on one side of the road. Among those is a beautiful life-size statue of Alluri Sitarama Raju.

🙏😀🙏
It is a real pity that our history textbooks don't mention or talk about the lives and sacrifices of all these great revolutionaries!

The current education system is begging for change! Someone like Raju should have been a popular name across Indian schools!

Shocking news from Kerala. Eminent Mohiniyattam dancer Dr Neena Prasad was literally driven off the stage in the middle of her performance because a local district judge Kalam Pasha was irritated by the show!

Absolutely humiliating!

Wth is happening in Kerala?! 😡
Neena trained in Mohiniyattam for a dozen years under Gurus Kalamandalam Sugandhi and Kshemavathy, in Bharatanatyam under Guru Adyar K. Lakshman for dozen yrs, in Kuchipudi under Vempati Chinna Satyam Garu, and in Kathakali under Vembayam Appukuttan Pillai.

She is not a nobody!
She was invited to perform in Palakkad by an organisation. In the middle of the performance, everything was stopped because this Pasha sent orders via the local police. He was apparently irritated by the performance. Neena and her group of dancers had to leave.

Hot topic in a WhatsApp group. I personally think the temple did the right thing. Here is a senior aware of his responsibilities. With a Mohammadean woman at home, & several questions about the sanctity of an ancient ritual that cannot be compromised! Temple taking no chances!
It is his mistake if he couldn't bring up his son in a better way! Yes, irresponsible son should have known the repercussions of this! He is free to do whatever.

Don't talk about Secularism now. Keep it outside our temples and rituals. Certain things cannot be compromised with.
You may call them "Trads" or whatever in your hi-fi language. It doesn't matter.

If you are ritually unfit for something, you have no business there, especially if you claim to be coming from a lineage. We have seen several such lineages break because of someone's negligence.

Auspicious day today! The Thirunakshatram of Sri Kulasekhara Azhwar, the king among Azhwars and the birthday of the poet saint Sri Atukuri Molla, two great Bhakthas, whose works continue to inspire us even today!

A short thread. 😀🙏
Kulasekhara Azhwar hailed from the royal lineage of Travancore. A wealthy king with a huge army & admin, and a great poet and a devotee. He authored the fantastic 'Mukunda Maala' in Sanskrit. He visited Srirangam and Tirupathi. Fell in love with the lord of the seven hills!
He was so engrossed in devotion to Lord Venkateshwara, that he wished if he had a rebirth, be wanted to be a plant or stone or dust on the seven hills. Perumal granted him his wish. The threshold into the innermost sanctum in Tirupathi is called Kulasekhara Padi in his honour.😀

In the golden words of Shri Atal ji..."Ham Vijay Hue Hain, Ham Mein Vinamrata Hain. Parajay Mein Atma Manthan Hona Chahiye.."

The Lotus shall blossom again! And again! 🤩🙏

Obviously those other idiots won't understand "Atma Manthan" in many lives!

Jai Ho! 😀🙏
As someone said "Ab Ki Baar, Antim Sanskaar!"

The memes are rolling!

There should be a collection of them for later entertainment!

The annual #Panguni Utsavams have commenced in #Srirangam. Yesterday evening, the Purappadu of Viswaksenar happened. He goes around the Maada veedhis to inspect if everything is ok. Today onwards Namperumal with Ubhaya Nachiyar is taken in a procession.

Will do a thread. 😀🙏
The dreaded Chniese Vrius had attacked just before the Panguni Utsavams last time. And for two years, everything was conducted within the temple premises. The residents of Srirangam have been eagerly waiting for two years now!

Finally this year they are happening, like before!😀
Earlier this morning, before sunrise, the Dhwajaarohana Mahotsavam happened. Sharing images and videos as received.

🙏🤩🙏🤩🙏

A day out with the nonagenarian Muthukannammal, the last of the traditional dancers of the Viralimalai Murugan temple. The original Kurathi of the famous Viralimalai Kuravanji!

Her name was announced for the Padma Shri award by the President of India, few weeks ago.

🤩🙏🤩
I was visiting her and this place after close to two decades! And what a phenomenal memory she has!! She could recollect so much from the last time!

So much laughter, music, dance, history, raunchy jokes and her old world social graces!

Superbly exciting day! Lots to tell!
🤩🙏
I showed her the image of hers I had taken some nineteen years ago! A young Muthukannammal had performed Abhinayam to a Dikshitar's Nottuswaram for us, then. She could recollect everything from memory!

Even now she has a sharp memory and perfect eyesight!

What a woman! 🤩🙏
