Looking forward to Apr 12 @ashraenews webinar with @WBahnfleth & moderator @healthyheating. We know that #COVIDisAirborne, and BC schools (all buildings really) can do more to keep us safe. Ask your district to register facilities, OH&S, legal, HR & other staff! #bced#bcpoli
I'll look at BC Legislature, BC CDC, Vancouver Coastal Health, UBC, and Vancouver & Surrey School Districts.
Let's investigate!
How will BC measure up wrt understanding and implementing @ashraenews COVID guidance?
BC Legislature: "The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads in several ways, but most commonly through airborne transmission" Wow! It says airborne. Measures are poor.
Ok, what about the BC CDC (Centre for Data Control? Disease Collaboration? We aren't sure.)
Ok. Weird. #COVIDisAirborne inside parliament buildings but not anywhere else? I guess that makes sense, since school buildings block COVID all together?
Vancouver Coastal Health has crappy advice for the public, though:
All right, searching Vancouver Coastal Health for ASHRAE only brings up one document, unrelated to COVID: vch.ca/Documents/VCH-…
Searching for Ventilation? Back to the useless blurb above, ventilation as in life support. Nothing useful that I can find.
Taking break to spend time with family. Fellow citizen detectives, if look up how COVID is transmitted and how it's prevented for other BC organizations, school districts, etc, dump it here and I will link back to the thread later!
Ok, back BC's COVID-19 safety esp wrt to aerosol mitigation. Now, to Vancouver School Board.
VSB has made efforts. Parents have expressed frustration, tho, that there are no performance targets / knowledge. Do you see ASHRAE refs?🧐
VSB links to VCH doc with unfortunate misinformation about role of portable air cleaners, and a lack of understanding of the technical analysis required to evaluate their role, sizing, etc. Anyone see ASHRAE ref'd?
What about Surrey, the other large school district in BC? COVID is over in Surrey 🥳🥳🥳. Looks like I'm gonna have to dig a bit to find their Communicable Disease Plan.
"The Public Health Agency denied or downgraded fact that children could be infectious, develop severe disease, or drive spread of infection in the population; while their internal emails indicate their aim to use children to spread infection in society"
"The Public Health Agency was systematically incorrect in their risk assessments, & ignored scientific evidence on suppression strategies, airborne transmission, pre-symptomatic & asymptomatic spread, face masks, children & COVID-19, “long-COVID”" #bcpoli
@WBahnfleth will present key elements of ASHRAE’s COVID-19 risk mitigation guidance.
BC parents, students, teachers, trustees, association and facility managers, have been under the influence of misinformation wrt mitigating aerosol infection risks in educational facilities.
Please make sure your PAC, trustees, medical officers of health, MLA are invited to this special webinar Apr 12 w/ @WBahnfleth - Making BC Schools Safer for Occupancy #COVIDisAirborne
@WorksfeBC was prepared for a pandemic. Oh, but not a REAL pandemic. More like a Vancouver Stock Exchange Pump-n-Dump Classic Pandemic. Or a Flip-This-House Pandemic. Yay us - #bcpoli can launder your money, your science, and your pandemic preparedness.
Covid AND lots of other viruses are airborne.
Public health has been doing doing almost nothing to stop flu deaths for years.
Doctors must be convicted of murder b4 losing license. Carry on.
Downplaying & denial are internationally interwoven in disturbing ways
Pandemic lessons, cont'd
Public health & IPAC have been quietly consolidating power to point they can overrule colleagues w/much greater clinical & specialty expertise.
IPAC needs to be handed over (or at least 50-50) - water treatment, wastewater treatment, air treatment.
Pandemic lessons, cont'd
There is little daylight between Horgan and Kenney & Ford.
The BC CDC is shockingly (and in some cases, purposely) bad at science ... and UBC would rather prop it up than correct it.
If your child is attending a school with insufficient aerosol mitigations, here is a brief letter you can use to withdraw consent for certain activities. Copy freely!
EPIDEMIC: unexpected increase in number of disease cases in a specific geographical area.
Notably, an epidemic disease doesn't necessarily have to be contagious. For example, West Nile fever and the rapid increase in obesity rates are also considered epidemics

.@WHO declares PANDEMIC when disease’s growth is exponential. Each day cases grow more than day prior.
Has nothing to do with virology, population immunity, or disease severity. It means a virus covers a wide area, affecting several countries and populations.
