Lena started a small company in Vardenis thanks to @HDIFarmenia and pillow cases that are very popular in the US. The team has grown, the women have stable incomes and Lena is now a successful entrepreneur #Collaborate4impact funded by @EU_Armenia@eu_near
Genya has a family business in Martuni village that makes beeswax candles for @HDIFarmenia. They have an amazing fragrance and tourists love to take this product home as souvenirs. In one of the poorest regions of #Armenia, this is a valuable source of income #Collaborate4impact
The common denominator is that @HDIFarmenia empowers women financially and also makes them confident participants in the lives of their families and communities. Currently engaging 235 such producers, HDIF aims to scale up to 1000 within a few years, with the right investment.
An interesting debate is brewing on Twitter regarding the ethical aspects of the offer by #Armenia for businesses in #Ukraine, #Russia, and #Belarus to move here. Here are my thoughts in a brief thread, and I would love to hear yours. #RussianUkrainianWar
First, on #Ukraine, I assume there really isn't much of a debate here. Continuing to run a business there is challenging in times of war and any moves to #Armenia might be temporary, with the company moving back as soon as regular operations are possible.
On #Russia and #Belarus, the position suggesting that this is unethical says that the sanctions are supposed to cripple their economies and pressure them to end the war. By offering companies an option to keep running, we're reducing the pressure on those authoritarian regimes.
