It's clear that Morrison has, by supporting Deves and having his allies in the party defend her in the media, now given up on the seats held by Liberal "moderates" that are under threat from the teal independents, including that of his own Treasurer. 1/8
Instead he's aiming for disengaged voters in marginal outer suburban seats who will pick up on the key words he's spruiking regarding trans athletes ("sport" "fairness", "common sense") and not delve into the motivation and culture wars underpinning them. 2/8
While this might look like mere tactics, it's something far deeper and more sinister. As with Morrison & Hawke's preselection manipulations in the NSW division, this is a fight for the heart of the Liberal Party. 3/8
Members of both the moderate faction (like NSW Treasurer Matt Kean) and the conservative faction (like powerbroker Walter Villatora, ally of Fierravanti-Wells) are calling for Deves' disendorsement. They know what Morrison is doing - remaking the party in his own image. 4/8
It wouldn't trouble Morrison & Hawke to have moderates like Zimmerman, Wilson & Sharma lose their seats.
Imposing Deves as candidate for Warringah wasn't a mistake.
It wasn't a failure of due diligence.
She was selected as a hand grenade to throw into the Liberal Party. 5/8
All Morrison needs is to win the election and then he'll do across all state divisions what he's done in NSW - manipulate the system to ensure that his candidates - religious far-right, socially extremely conservative - get preselection. 6/8
This is his goal. Morrison's religion isn't just a harmless side interest. It's key to everything he does in politics. 7/8
Having so much of the political media onside & unwilling to interrogate what is underlying Morrison's strategy, he knows he's in with a good chance of winning.
And if he doesn't win? He's fought the good fight.
Morrison's never cared about the harm left in his wake. /end

Just a reminder about the process of voting in the Senate!
You can vote above the line if you want, marking at least 6 boxes 1, 2, 3, etc. That means you're voting for a party or group of independents.
Or you can vote below the line...
1/ 1
If you vote below the line, you're voting for individual candidates. You must vote for at least 12 candidates (1, 2, 3, etc.) You can vote in any order you like, and don't need to follow the parties' order of their candidates.
2/6
If you don't number every box after your 6 (above the line) or 12 (below the line) choices, your vote then extinguishes. This is an important change from elections prior to 2016.

Perrottet's family is deeply involved with Opus Dei.
The barrister of Dominic's brother, Jean Claude Perrottet, specifically referred to their family as "belonging to the conservative Catholic order Opus Dei" in a rape case against him.
In order to understand Morrisonβs theology and goals, itβs essential to delve into the Seven Mountains mandate β to which he, his church and a number of his key political allies subscribe.
A thread.
The image above comes from this organisation, which meets annually. Speakers have included Martien Iles (ACL), Senators Matt Canavan, Eric Abetz and Amanda Stoker, and George Christensen.
Scriptural authority for the βseven mountainsβ comes from Isaiah 2:2: βNow it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lordβs house shall be established on the top of the mountains.β
I have been re-reading the transcript of Christian Porter's media conference because at the time two things struck me as wrong. I find it difficult to believe that as a lawyer, A-G & former DPP prosecutor, Porter would not have known they were wrong when he stated them. 1/6
The Dyson Heydon investigation was not contemporaneous. Heydon had retired from the High Court in 2013 (the day before his 70th birthday - the mandatory retirement age of judges) & the behaviour complained of was while he was a High Court judge. As AG, Porter must know that. 2/6
Secondly, Porter suggests that any inquiry would reverse the onus of proof and require that he attempt to "disprove" alleged events. That isn't the case in criminal prosecutions and there is no reason to believe it be would in any inquiry. 3/6
Australia is so used to having a big centre-left/progressive party that can govern in its own right, but that is clearly becoming increasingly unlikely as party membership declines and as the ALP's base shifts and fragments.
2/5
The left needs to stop assuming that the ALP is sufficient on its own to get the numbers to govern and gnashing its teeth when it fails to get over the line.

A few points here, @MikeCarlton01, and I hope you'll hear me out.
I am not sure that you are the best person to determine whether particular language is misogynistic, just as you and I are not really qualified to decide whether language deemed by non-white people to be racist is actually offensive.
When women tell you that they find his insults disturbingly familiar in the context of gendered abuse, you should listen. When in a discussion entirely unrelated, a man refers to a woman's weight and appearance and tells her to sit down and be quiet? ...
