I'd been told Bimbo, the gang leader, was "Going to get me".

Seeing him playing cricket I challenged him.

... I liked Bimbo better after that, too. Up until that time my every encounter with Bimbo & his gang had been humiliating, forcing me to hate & despise myself & to hate Bimbo for putting me in that position.

Playing the hero, by taking the fight to Bimbo ...

@jordanbpeterson ... Being brave and playing the hero, rather than playing the coward, helped me to like myself more.

Also, Bimbo respected me more after that and (watching how he handled the situation) I respected him.

I feel we liked each other after that encounter. ...

@jordanbpeterson ... Before the encounter, Bimbo and I had viewed each other with mutual contempt:

I thought he was an ignorant thug.

He thought I was a lily delivered Mummy's boy.

Afterwards he respected me. I also witnessed the behaviour of a General rather than a thug.
