On His way to Mathura, Sri Tulsidas Ji stopped in Agra for the night.
News spread that Sri Tulsidas Ji, a great MAHAAN, had come to Agra.
When the people heard this, they immediately flocked to see Him.
When Akbar learnt of this, he asked Birbal who this Sri Tulsidas.

Then Birbal, who was himself a great devotee of Lord Rama, said, that Sri Tulsidas Ji had translated Valmiki Ramayana, which was now known as "Ramacharit Manas" and that he too had been to see him.

Akbar sent his army to convey to Sri Tulsidas Ji that He should come to the palace immediately.
On hearing this message Sri Tulsidas ji said, "I am a devotee of Lord Rama not the emperor, what should I do at the palace?", and refused to go.

When this was communicated to Akbar, he was furious & ordered arrest of Sri Tulasidas Ji & had Him forcefully brought to the Red Fort.
When Sri Tulsidas reached the Red Fort bound in chains, Akbar said, "You look like an attractive person, can't you show a little charisma!".

This angered Akbar and he ordered the immediate imprisonment of Sri Tulsidas Ji.

On the second day, an army of more than a million monkeys attacked the Red Fort in and wreaked havoc all around.
In absolute panic, Akbar called Birbal and asked for an explanation.
Birbal said, "Your highness, do you now see the glory of Lord Rama and His devotee?".

What came out of this writing were forty "Chaupayas" which were inspired by Sri Hanuman Ji.

Ashamed, Akbar apologized to Sri Tulsidas ji and sent him to Mathura with full respect and protection.
