🚨‼️#Bucha🇺🇦 mayor confirms Russians had kill lists to hunt down & kill politicians, activists & Donbas war veterans. "I saw these lists… they knew in advance who they were after & their addresses," Mayor Fedoruk said, adding Russians knew that officials lived in #Kyiv suburbs.
THREAD re #Russia's "Kill Lists" in #Ukraine, first reported by @ak_mack @RobbieGramer & @JackDetsch on eve of Feb. invasion. Confirmed by @nytimes, @washingtonpost & now by #Bucha mayor. This is kleptocrat Putin using war to kill his critics—journalists, activists & politicians.
@ak_mack @RobbieGramer @JackDetsch @nytimes @washingtonpost Russia's kill lists are of a piece w/ Putin's mafia state terrorism that began w/ apt bombings, continued w/ pretexts for war in xUSSR, dotted in between w/ assassinations & hit squads. That's why Bellingcat's Grozev called @navalny poisoning a "prequel" to Ukraine invasion.

❗️Incredible report from @edlavaCNN. Russian soldiers rounded up villagers at gunpoint into a school basement. 350 ppl forced to live in such horrific conditions, 12 elderly died. Russians held them there for a month—as human shields—knowing Ukrainians wouldn't attack the school.
Sofia took @CNN into the school basement where she was held hostage for a month by Russian soldiers with 350 other Ukrainian villagers. Conditions were so cramped, air so stifling, breathing was hard. She said the Russians told her point blank that they were taken there to die.
Olena says Russian soldiers threw grenades into her windows & defecated on her floor. She was locked in the school basement too. She pleaded w/ the Russians to let her 1-year-old infant out of the stifling basement for fresh air. They refused, saying "Let her die, we don't care."

Trump just can’t condemn Putin. Even now, as the murderer is awash in Ukrainian blood. Fox gave Trump another opportunity y’day to say Putin is evil. But Trump went off on NATO & the EU instead. His allegiance to Putin never changes. If his GOP gets back in power, we’re doomed.
Great piece by @jonathanchait. But I'd go further: Given Trump's continued allegiance to Putin, and the Republican Party's allegiance to Trump, there's no question that Ukraine and the rest of the free world would be in grave danger with the GOP in power.

@jonathanchait Read this too >> How Trump & Putin Have Been Allies Against Ukraine, wherein @jonathanchait outlines how Trump has long supported—regularly & consistently— delegitimizing the now besieged country. And with the support of a controlling faction of the GOP. nymag.com/intelligencer/…

Putin’s Orwellian lies are as absurd as they are evil. And he tells them with the conviction of a sociopath. Every time he opens his mouth to keep his propaganda lies spinning, he’s just spinning his own grave, providing evidence of his intent to commit & cover up genocide.
Putin tells so many lies, they contradict each other. He claims Bucha was fake w/ staged dead bodies "like in Syria to frame Russia." Then he says, nobody care about 100s of dead bodies left for months in Syria & Afghanistan. Pick a lie, Vova. Fake dead bodies or real dead?
Contrast Putin's sociopathic conviction with Lukashenka's breathy lack of it. The Belarus dictator claims he has license plate numbers of the Englishmen who staged Bucha fake. These fascist clown saw Boris Johnson in Kyiv & have now woven the UK into their pathetic propaganda.🙄

Vladimir Kara-Murza has been sentenced to 15 days in jail in Russia, after criticizing Putin's war in interviews w/ US media.

@vkaramurza is a fierce & brilliant pro-democracy advocate, 2-time survivor of Putin's murderous regime & a Washington Post columnist. All give me dread.
@vkaramurza Russian police report says Vladimir Kara-Murza was arrested for disobeying police & resisting arrest. It cites Russian law that mandates police arrest who look suspicious like they're committing crimes. And cites his walking quickly & trying to hide from police as suspicious.🤨😒 Image
@vkaramurza Washington Post columnist arrested in Moscow after criticizing Putin — Kara-Murza was arrested outside his home in Moscow, the same day CNN aired an interview in which he predicted that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would lead to Putin’s downfall. washingtonpost.com/media/2022/04/…

We should talk about Russian atrocities as ongoing since 2014. Russia invaded Ukraine then. War crimes in torture cellars began then. Crimes of aggression include downing civilian airliner MH17. Putin hid behind "separatist" propaganda for years. 2022 war lifted that smokescreen.
2021 UN Report: “egregious violations of torture… documented in the ‘Izoliatsiia’ facility in Donetsk… other places of detention…continue on a daily basis… carried out systematically in breakaway eastern regions of Donetsk & Luhansk…began in 2014. voanews.com/a/europe_un-re…
Several reports documented torture & other war crimes in Russian-occupied Donbas since Russia's 2014 invasion.

There is an unbroken thread between then & now. @avalaina discussed "Terror as a Method of Warfare" in 2015. Now Putin's war crimes are on a mass scale across Ukraine.
