Edmonton’s police commission needs to be more transparent & open up private meetings to foster public trust, says city councillor (& commissioner) Anne Stevenson. The police commission had its first public meeting with council today. #yeg #yegcc edmontonjournal.com/news/local-new…
Coun. Anne Stevenson, who is also a commissioner, said there needs to be a “cultural shift” so that the oversight body becomes comfortable asking difficult questions of police leadership in a public forum.
Police commission chair John McDougall told me the commission has been “remarkably transparent” already. Even so he supports the idea to have more public committee meetings.
In a test of transparency, McDougall was questioned by a councillor about if the commission knew much about a string of police shootings in Edmonton & the factors behind them & what the commission is doing — McDougall dodged Keren Tang’s questions twice.
Throwback to the first police commission meeting I went to in Edmonton.

Kenney says targeted public health measures and rising vaccination rates have helped slow the spread

NEWS: Developers donated at least $58,499 to Edmonton’s incoming city councillors ahead of the election. Three councillors were also part of an infill development lobbyist group.

I analyzed all the public donor lists & this is what I found. #yeg #yegcc edmontonjournal.com/news/local-new…
Development executives, donating as individuals, gave the most to:

- Tim Cartmell ($22,450)
- Andrew Knack ($14,400)
- Ashley Salvador ($14,039)
- Anne Stevenson ($6,610)

Sarah Hamilton, Aaron Paquette, Jennifer Rice & Karen Principe haven’t shared their lists. #yeg #yegcc
Experts I spoke to say developers have a vested interest in the outcome of Edmonton’s elections.

Premier Jason Kenney is here at the federal building to give an update on Covid today. I’m told Hinshaw came by earlier but she’s not in the room now. #abhealth #covid19ab #ableg #yeg Image
Kenney says it doesn’t look like we had a Thanksgiving spike. He’s talking a bit about vaccines — we’re at 87.2% of first doses and 80.6% who had both.
He says while it’s important for everyone to get the jab some more vulnerable groups need them more so that’s why they went first and got booster shots.

Heard about a young person who got covid but seems his family are conspiracy theorists. Mum treated him at home with ivermectin, vitamins & home remedies but symptoms wouldn’t let up. She brought him to hospital & now he’s in ICU. Misinformation is killing people 😢
Really sad to see lives threatened because of grifters peddling (and sometimes profiting from) false info on social media.

Easy to be misled when the people you trust are promoting bad info, and telling you not to trust legit sources. I get that.

This is all really sad.
If you've had a change of heart after seeing covid hurting yourself or someone you love, please get in touch. I'd like to hear your story. My DMs are open.
