WHEN will this waitlist be made available @google
Why is there no link to it?
in the coming weeks, you'll be able to join a waitlist for a no-cost option. If you take no action by Jun 1, 2022, we'll automatically transition you to the recommended Google Workspace subscription.
This is crazy. We get sent communications to join a waitlist that is not even able to be joined.. is this kindergarten?
Apr 8, 2022
Absolutely ridiculous, send a communication to join the so called waiting list when there is no option to do it and Google expects to users to use their paid service.
We always told people "Google is your friend". Not so sure anymore. The only information about joining the waiting list is how to switch to the paid service.
this sounded hopeful back in the beginning of April...
So I guess we'll just need to keep checking back at the Google Admin console every few weeks and try to avoid forgetting to do it before 1st June... support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
@Google Seems like they really want us to 'accidentally' flow into Google Workspaces because the 'opt out' option is "on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard"
But as a single user with very basic needs I dont have any use for ”the complete google business package”, loaded with a million features. I just want my domain as email and a place to store some files.
This is how they get you:
I do not understand what form you all keep referring to, or what waitlist. I have logged into my admin console and there is no form that I can find.
But google has a clever system that requires a human to keep clicking to see more of the negative comments, so the archive copy is missing a lot.
This is blackmail, Google!
My family is not a business! When we signed up we were told by you, Google, that this was a free service! My family can't afford to pay $720 per year, but you give us no other choice, because if we don't we will lose all our e-mail history,...
Does Google (or Alphabet) really desperately needs a couple more bucks from families and small business owners?
I mean, if it does needs more money just put a damn ad on the side of gmail, that works, doesn it?
The best thing about this whole "support thread" is that the only positive comments about google come from "Diamond Product Experts" who don't even work for google but are just hoping they'll be rewarded for their efforts to serve their master.
This is a joke, except you missed executing it on April 1. Tone deaf, complete misunderstanding of who your customers are, being mostly families and individuals - not small companies. Meanwhile I see actual traders using free gmail addresses all over the place.
Seriously - £4 a month just because I have a custom domain for my family. I'm happy to pay a little compared to free gmail address - but 4 users - over £200 a year
Come on Google - don't be evil support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
So many things get tied to a google account that one gets locked in and forced to pay or they lose it all:
Many of us use the Google authentication (Oauth) tied to these accounts for our other services.
I also have been using Gsuite Free for family email with a vanity domain and 6 users since 2006.
Please provide an option to use gmail with a vanity domain without all of this hassle.
We can use gmail for free.
Why can't we use gmail with a vanity domain for free?
Does anyone have an archive of this free forever?
I sorta recall it said that too. Otherwise I would have stuck with Eudora.
Google said "free forever" when they originally created this free plan for those who helped them through their beta phase. Forever should mean forever!!!
I'm getting exhausted and this is just ONE of the support threads on this topic.
If I decide it's not worth paying for - what happens to all of my accounts created on a zillion other websites via "login with google" at my email address? Do I just LOSE these accounts?
A lot of frustration and anger here. I don't remember the contract or terms of service from all those years ago so I don't know if I'm owed anything for my loyalty and free beta testing.
@google owes its beta testers! That's a funny twist.
@Google I never anticipated that it would come about in this way and we'd effectively be forced to pay a ransom to not have our accounts suspended if we didn't join some currently non-existent waiting list.
@Google Google's ZERO customer service model.
F-ck users!
I have no idea how all of this works and no patience to figure it out. Is it possible to speak with an actual human being who can explain what is happening and which option is best for me? Thank you. :)
Google had informed that Google Legacy emails will remain free for life.
If Google would have made it amply clear that they will close down the legacy version, we would not have grown so dependent on it. This is very bad on the part of Google to abandon their early patrons.
Google doesn't give an F and the only "google" replies are from volunteer "product expert" shills.
Google - please go back to the drawing board and look at who is really using the old free legacy services and how to approach and keep us.. Please open a dialogue at least.
On April 21, the shills are still saying "The new waiting list is not yet available. The link for no cost waiting list will be available in Admin console in coming weeks. Try to check back in next 2-3 weeks." support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
Complaining to a shill gets you nowhere.
But it is pretty clever of @google to have volunteers handle all their "customer service" so that they can get on with the real business of ignoring customers.
@gmail the most likely action by Google is to say "Sucka". If that is how this plays out, I will tell ALL that Google cannot be trusted and it's best to choose your Google products very carefully. support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
@gmail The next day I came in....still on hold! ha! After 24 hours of holding to talk to a live person at their corporate headquarters the automated voice said "I'm having trouble reaching a person right now to answer your call, please try again later". wow. support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
@gmail This is idiotic - years ago I set my family, and my elderly parents up with google domain-driven free "Suite" accounts for the sole purpose of ensuring that they would never again have to lose their e-mail when changing providers. support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
@gmail If anyone here is a lawyer and willing to file a class action lawsuit, I'm up for setting up a gofundme and donating to help finance the lawsuit. Better to spend my money this way that having to cough up $6 per user per month for the rest of my life. support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
@gmail here we are, weeks later, and still no update. no info about the waitlist in my console. mostly just figuring I'm stuck/screwed.
this is awful. :(
I'm going to be held hostage because my email address was used for OAuth login to so many sites.
already in May and i still don't see any waiting list option on the admin console, or did i missed something ? support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
@gmail Absolutely deplorable for Google to nickel and dime legacy users (beta testers) that are now basically being held hostage with their domain emails.
They need to fix this. I've been using my domain address with Google since March 2010 and have used it in all my secure logins!
@gmail We can't contact Google Workspace support unless we upgrade....But if we upgrade, we can't go back to legacy/free and we will then be charged for at least the basic business plan.
@gmail@Google we have been using the free Google Apps for Your Domain for our family email addresses since 2007. At the time Google literally encouraged families to sign up for this purpose.
@gmail@Google Google has been very disrespectful in this, taking their longest serving users and pioneers of this service for a ride instead of having some integrity and honouring "free for life" as advertised.
This is not the first time Google has done something like this
There always has to be the one straw that broke the camel's back. Maybe this is it.
the communication from google is not very good at all, first "forever free" is free no more, now we are kept in uncertainty how to proceed. For e-mail, paying $264 yearly for 3 family mailboxes is just too expensive and not an option. Also the lack of some "reasonable way out"...
Google's new motto: Don't be evil unless it's so evil that the users can't even believe it.
I have been looking for this bloody list for weeks and there is nothing to be found 🤨 it looks like a dark UX pattern to make us choose a paid option… support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
@Google We have 12 of May, and still no Waiting List. OK, got it Google. You wanted to pi*& off your users.
Only 2 weeks left and nothing happend. I am sure its on purpose from the Google side. support.google.com/a/thread/15884…
Currently, we are still working on the option and the list. Unfortunately, we have no specific date for the launch, but I can tell you the form has not been launched live just yet, but we expect to have it showing in the Admin Console in the next few weeks.

My (eric81766) personal understanding of scams and lies is that the best ones have some seeds of truth in them to get one to start going "yes" and then once there's momentum in that direction, then the misdirection comes in.
We've reached a weird point in human history where social media companies that catch on ( -1 to MySpace and +1 to TikTok ) have enormous power. They can shape narratives by bombarding users with whatever viewpoint they select.
Way more power than kings and emperors in past had.
There's so much opportunity for scams by telling some truths followed by some untruths.
It's much easier to sell a big promise than to deliver on a big promise.
And sometimes when selling, the bigger the promise, the more the buyer wants to believe it is true.

note the parallels to #indiedev
the most fundamental shift for me came in 2003, when iTunes opened its doors to unsigned artists.
Monthly payments from iTunes have been steady ever since, and they’ve made a lot of things possible. archive.is/b7zDh
2) Having iTunes as the bulk of my income has been fantastic, but it worries me to rely on it. If I have learned one thing about technology, it’s that disruptive innovations are so compelling, they can’t be stopped.
3) Even before I launched my career, one such disruption had appeared on the horizon. It was already clear that peer-to-peer file sharing would eventually eat the established music industry’s lunch.
1/8 Some quick thoughts on delivering value and what is of value and to who (whom?).
A lot of indie developers make videos about indie game development -- but are the people who watch videos about indie game development the most likely customers for indie games?
Perhaps not.
2/8 Some #indiedev even go all-in on making YouTube videos and become entertainers that earn money primarily from entertaining rather than selling games.
My general quick take is:
3/8 - An artist (painter, writer, sculptor, or even indie game developers) needs an audience - fans of their work.
- Any way one can develop and nurture an audience is better than having no audience.
1/ My thoughts #gamedev#indiedev#marketing
Start marketing ASAP in the process. Gather and involve fans as much as possible to get them invested.
2/ Ultimately, the audience you want to market to is your fans, but you may need to market to other audiences that are easier to find as you grow your fan audience.
Finding players is more difficult than finding developers.
3/ Some developers may be potential players of your game, but not all.
SO:
Deliver value to whoever you can. Delivering value gets you an audience.
