Oregonians need to watch out. There is a dangerous candidate running as an "independent" for Governor.
She's trying to appeal to both sides of the aisle & is backed by big $$$, but look at her record on #GunLegislation and you tell me which party she belongs in. // thread
For context, @TinaKotek is the Democratic candidate (vote for her!!), Christine Drazan is the R (just no), and Betsy Johnson is the candidate running as an "independent."
By running as an independent, Betsy Johnson avoided any scrutiny during the primaries, didn't have to spend a dime of money, and just popped right into the general election.
But her votes give her away. Let's review how she voted on gun legislation when she was in the Oregon legislature.
A bill to authorize school districts to prohibit guns on state property (SB 554, March 2021), Betsy Johnson voted...
NO
A bill to prohibit convicted stalkers from possessing firearms (HB 4145, Feb 2018), Betsy Johnson voted...
NO
A bill to prohibit individuals with risk of suicide from owning deadly weapons (SB 719, May 2017), Betsy Johnson voted...
NO
A bill to requires background checks for firearm transfers (SB 941, April 2015), Betsy Johnson voted...
NO
Oh, did I mention that as recently as 2020, both the NRA and the Oregon Firearms Federation gave Betsy Johnson a perfect 100% A rating?
I know the conventional wisdom is that independent candidates cannot win. But multiple signs indicate that far too many Oregonians who are tired of two-party politics are looking at Betsy Johnson, not realizing that every position she stands for is Republican.
Betsy Johnson has gone so far as to put ZERO policy positions on her campaign website. All she's got is her bio, favorable press, and a list of endorsements.
Beware the politician who won't tell you anything about their goals once in office.
To give you a sense of the "pull" Betsy Johnson has, she just got TEDxPortland to give her a spot at their event even though as a nonprofit, they are forbidden from giving political candidates a platform. wweek.com/news/2022/05/2…
If you're an OR voter, please support @TinaKotek -- particularly on gun legislation, she is the ONLY candidate who will protect our kids.
If you're not in Oregon, please help me share this info and/or donate to Tina's campaign so she can get the word out. secure.actblue.com/donate/tinafor…
Thank you for your help. I know folks think of Oregon as "reliably blue" but unless we get this information out, we could have a real catastrophe on our hands.

It's here! Political Charge's Year in Review -- a fun look back at the good things that happened in 2021. This has been one of the more popular features of my blog in the past -- I hope you enjoy this year's edition! #2021YearInReviewpoliticalcharge.org/2021/12/29/202…
A few highlights:
JANUARY
The Inauguration, of course.
FEBRUARY
The House voted to strip Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee assignments, following her use of social media to spread racism, conspiracy theories, and encouraging violence against Democrats.
So, a few months ago, I started making #goodnews TikToks on Fridays to celebrate our wins and counteract the media’s negative bias. Because I use music, I haven’t brought them here.
But I want my Twitter friends to celebrate, too, so let’s do it as a fun thread! 🧵
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) vetoed 5 bills from the GOP legislature that aimed to restrict abortion access.
Job creation under Biden is 60x the rate of the last 3 presidents! (Not a typo!)
I wanted to take a moment to thank Elizabeth B. Prelogar, only second Senate-confirmed woman to serve as solicitor general, for arguing about women's right to abortion in front of #SCOTUS today. She was amazing. #RoeVWade
Reminder that Prelogar was Biden's nominee. The only other female solicitor general was Elena Kagan, who was nominated by Obama. scotusblog.com/2021/09/prelog…
You guys. Biden's team is just knocking it out of the park again. They planted 200,000 flags -- from every state and territory -- to represent you and me on the Mall. People who'd want to be at the #Inauguration but can't due to COVID. (Click to see the magnificent picture.)
There are 56 lights shining upwards, to represent the 50 states and 6 territories.
