One way to control what you see on Twitter is ignoring your Home feed, and using Lists. I’ve been asked how to set them up, so here goes. (I’ll explain why they’re awesome at the end. In the app, tap the List icon. Image

Oregonians need to watch out. There is a dangerous candidate running as an "independent" for Governor.

She's trying to appeal to both sides of the aisle & is backed by big $$$, but look at her record on #GunLegislation and you tell me which party she belongs in. // thread For context, @TinaKotek is the Democratic candidate (vote for her!!), Christine Drazan is the R (just no), and Betsy Johnson is the candidate running as an "independent."

It's here! Political Charge's Year in Review -- a fun look back at the good things that happened in 2021. This has been one of the more popular features of my blog in the past -- I hope you enjoy this year's edition! #2021YearInReview politicalcharge.org/2021/12/29/202… A few highlights:

The Inauguration, of course.

So, a few months ago, I started making #goodnews TikToks on Fridays to celebrate our wins and counteract the media’s negative bias. Because I use music, I haven’t brought them here.

But I want my Twitter friends to celebrate, too, so let’s do it as a fun thread! 🧵 Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) vetoed 5 bills from the GOP legislature that aimed to restrict abortion access.

I wanted to take a moment to thank Elizabeth B. Prelogar, only second Senate-confirmed woman to serve as solicitor general, for arguing about women's right to abortion in front of #SCOTUS today. She was amazing. #RoeVWade Image

Do you see your state on this list? Every state listed has elections happening on Tues. Nov. 2! It could be… //thread It could be local races like for mayor or city council, you could have ballot measures, or it could be school board elections!!

You guys. Biden's team is just knocking it out of the park again. They planted 200,000 flags -- from every state and territory -- to represent you and me on the Mall. People who'd want to be at the #Inauguration but can't due to COVID. (Click to see the magnificent picture.) There are 56 lights shining upwards, to represent the 50 states and 6 territories.

Ok, guys. Clearly we are in great need of a story. The story of what happened the last time the Senate had an equal 50-50 split.

Don't assume you know the end to this story by the way. Ok, here goes. // THREAD (By the way, if anyone is wondering, yes, I'm responding with annoyance at everyone irritated that Chuck Schumer is "working with" Mitch McConnell on the rules that will govern the Senate.)

Dear Republican Party,

No, we will not be moving on. We reject your attempts to change the subject because we see them for what they are:

You're desperately trying to escape accountability for the role you played in #TrumpsInsurrection on Wednesday. // THREAD As Thomas Paine said, “A body of men holding themselves accountable to nobody ought not to be trusted by anybody.”

And until you take responsibility, we do not trust you to do the job you were elected to do.

With the news that a dozen Republican senators plan to be openly hostile to #democracy on Jan. 6, and the understandable frenzy on social & the media about this, I want to be clear about 3 things: 1. Their stunt on Jan. 6 will fail. What happens after objections are raised to a state's slate of electors in both the House and the Senate, is that they each have to debate the issue and then vote. It can't take more than 2 hours.

I’m so angry.

Republicans, right wing pundits, and bad actors are throwing America under the bus, and worse, are poisoning its own citizens to hate #democracy. // Thread The Republicans have been anti-democratic for decades, which we can see from things like their vast #VoterSuppression tactics, but it used to be quiet. Hidden from view. No longer.

You must read what the four Attorneys General have said in their 🔥 response to the #TexasCase for #SCOTUS.

Thankfully, we have these AGs in battleground states standing up for the Constitution, federalism, and representative democracy. // Mini-thread AG Josh Shapiro (PA):

"Texas's effort to get this Court to pick the next President has no basis in law or fact. The Court should not abide this seditious abuse of the judicial process, and should send a clear and unmistakable signal that such abuse must never be replicated."

STORYTIME

It was right about now, about 10 days after the '16 election when I finally ventured back onto social media. It had been too hard until then. My anxiety and worry were off the charts.

What I found quite literally changed my life. // a #gratitude thread A friend of mine wrote a post about a new group she found, called the Every Day Project, who was posting "one action a day to protect against our 45th president."

I signed up for their email and gave it a try. (This was pre-Indivisible.)

There's a House district here in Oregon that the Republicans have been desperate to flip for years. This year, they're getting really close to making that happen!! 😬

Here's why it's close, and why we can't let them win. #VoteBlue // thread Our Congressman in #OR04 is Peter DeFazio. He became the Chair of the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee when we flipped the House in 2018.

He has 100% scores from the Human Rights Campaign & Planned Parenthood & a 97% rating from the League of Conservation Voters.

There was a time when I was studying Art History, that I thought about a career at Interpol, helping to recover stolen art and artifacts.

So stories like the one involving Hobby Lobby and Middle Eastern artifacts have always caught my eye. // thread When you buy art, it's really important to know where it came from. Ideally, you want to be able to trace who has owned it since it was originally purchased from the artist (or discovered when dealing with ancient artifacts.) 2/x

Want to get rid of Tucker Carlson? Get rid of cable.

Seriously, if you have cable, Fox News gets a cut of your subscription even if you never watch a minute of it. Cable subscriptions is their ENTIRE revenue stream. Not ads. Switch to Hulu or Prime or HBO Max or ESPN + or whatever. Trust me, I did it. And I'm swimming in content.
