Is Commissioner Brenda Lucki being truthful?
(avoiding use of the L-word)
☞ YOU BE THE JUDGE
IN A SHORT ANALYSIS of the language, grammar and syntax, we'll evaluate @CommrRCMPGRC's 'own' words. We'll look closer at her written statement for signs of deception. +
It's reasonable to presume that this was prepared by (unidentified) others for Commissioner and likely is not exclusively her 'own' words. Irrespective, she has adopted it.
@CommrRCMPGRC fails to directly deny the allegation of political interference. The omission is glaring. +
People do not want to lie. They will settle on the easiest form of deception. It's easier for a person to be dishonest using "never" as opposed to directly telling a lie by saying "I didn't do it." A slight change in wording can reveal something a person may tend to withhold. +
A deceptive person requires leeway to modify assertions at a later date without directly contradicting original narrative building statement
The words "extremely" & "fully" are ultimately unnecessary and are meant to make it more convincing. Each detracts & indicates otherwise. +
The sentence highlighted in yellow is (strikingly) short (see #5 MLU)
We should pay particular attention to sentences whose length differs significantly from the subject's MLU. It shouldn't be dismissed as inconsequential.
Important information may have been omitted. +
A narrative consists of three parts: introduction/prologue (20%-25%),body/critical event (40%-60%) & closing/aftermath (25%-35%).
In her statement: 6.5%, 83%, 10.5%. Suffice it to say, it is suspiciously out of balance.
THAT SAID, 46% is dedicated to a lengthy 'mea culpa' +
Average number of words per sentence is called the "mean length of utterance" (MLU). The MLU equals the total number of words in a statement divided by number of sentences: 295 divided by 15 = 19.6
Most people tend to speak in sentences of ranging between 10 and 15 words.+
When anxious, people tend to speak in sentences that are either significantly longer or significantly shorter than the norm. Two sentences stand out. They are in juxtaposition and bear a similar construction: a short clauses ending with "and" followed by a declarative statement. +
The clauses "This is standard procedure" has 4 words; "I take the principle of police independence extremely seriously", 9 words. Each could stand alone but has an added declarative statement. This begs the question under this government what has become "standard procedure"? +
The foregoing was a cursory examination (and not intended to be thorough).
It's adequate to give the reader (sufficient) information to collect their thoughts and possibly form a better informed opinion about the 'truthfulness' or 'untruthfulness' of this official statement.

ULTIMATELY, and indeed appropriately, a future Judge acting as the final 'trier of fact' will ultimately determine what constitutes "exigent circumstances" in relation to "reasonable limits" that Charter #CCRF permits.
