Finally! #GlobalBritain IS #WorldBeating at something: fraud. 😬🇬🇧

Criminals scammed UK banking customers out of £1.3BILLION in 2021: fraud accounted for 39% of all crime in 2020-21 (ONS). Globally, the UK now has the worst overall problem with online fraud relative to its size.
The average loss per victim of investment fraud last year was more than £14,000.

£77MILLION was lost to scammers posing as employees from utility companies, #HMRC, the #NHS or other official bodies using the threat of fictitious fines or outstanding debts to extract payments.
UK Finance warns that criminals research their targets, using information gathered from social media profiles, data breaches & previous scams - fake text messages urging us to register for energy help schemes, money off our shopping or pay for missed parcel deliveries etc
Currently, the financial ombudsman is over-ruling banks’ decisions not to refund in around 75% of cases — the fraud backlog means it takes nine months for it to get to complaints.
Nadine Dorries' online safety bill will impose a legal duty on the biggest platforms to police fake ads, but until social media sites are forced to share the huge cost of compensating victims, it is doubtful it will have much impact.

Who remembers this big fat Tory lie?

Sajid Javid has always been driven by the unethical, divisive & now catastrophic ideology of free-market fundamentalism that has absolutely fucked Britain & America, & gifted unimaginable power & wealth to a handful of damaged megalomaniacs. Image

Given that ex-banker Sajid Javid & ex-hedge-funder Rishi Sunak's wife have been shy about revealing the details of their non dom status, should we be concerned about a new UK Government deal with vaccine maker Moderna?

@PrivateEyeNews implies we should. Image
@PrivateEyeNews asks: "Will Rishi Sunak's Treasury sign off on the cash needed for health secretary Sajid Javid's recently announced "strategic partnership" with vaccine maker Moderna?"
"The chancellor certainly knows the company well from his previous life as a hedgie. According to Javid, the deal will "cement the UK's status as a science superpower" & involve "a state-of-the-art manufacturing centre" using Modema's "truly transformational" mRNA technology."

A few weeks ago @PrivateEyeNews reported how much money was being made by many suppliers of PPE stock languishing in a near £3bn "do not use pile". One of them, Chemical Intelligence Ltd, owned entirely by businessman Robert Gros, had already made a £33m profit on income of £90m. Image
The following year's figures now show a further pre-tax profit of £31 m from an £86m turnover. Not bad for a company employing just five people. These thumping returns have translated into dividends for Gros of £7m in January this year, followed by £40m in March.
At the end of last year Chemical Intelligence, along with 57 other companies that are veterans of the Covid bonanza, was named in a plan to continue providing rubber gloves to the Department of Health.

Daughter of Tory MP Sir Robert Atkins, Tory MP Victoria Atkins. is now competing with Nadine Dorries' for the role of 'Chief Dead Cat Thrower & Shit-Stirrer': she's full of snide remarks, culture war crap, & now a whiny & unwarranted complaint.

theguardian.com/politics/2022/…
Prior to her political career, Atkins worked as a barrister specialising in the field of fraud - which is handy considering how $BILLIONS of our money has been "spaffed up the wall" by her Govt of liars, & seeing as Britain is now world-beating in fraud.

Privately educated Atkins was selected for the safe Conservative seat of Louth & Horncastle, continuously held by the party since 1924. In April 2018, now working in the Home Office, she said she did not know the number of police officers in the country.

Follower homogeneity among German MPs across politicians and parties is measured. While the overall homogeneity is low, politicians of the right-wing populist AfD party stand out with very homogeneous follower networks.

journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…
These are largely driven by a small group of strongly committed partisans that make up around 7% of the party’s but around 55–75% of the average AfD politician’s followers, showing potentially unequal distributions of network segregation on @Twitter. Image
Small groups of active users can multiply their influence online, which has important implications for future social media research. On @Twitter, politicians are “more likely to follow, than to lead” when setting agendas, & are more responsive to their supporters than the public. Image

Britain's most influential people are more than five times more likely to have been to a private, fee-paying school than the general population, despite just 7% of UK people being privately educated. 1,300 private schools enjoy charitable status.

theconversation.com/the-public-cos…
There are many reasons for this extraordinary dominance of private schools in our society, but one that is not well understood is how many of these schools – including the most prestigious such as #Eton – benefit from substantial tax advantages as a result of 'charitable' status. Image
It's not possible to state with certainty how much the UK’s charitable private schools save through tax exemptions, but it's thought to be around £3 billion a year. This equates to more than 6% of England’s total state school budget (£47.6 billion) in 2020-2021. Image
