We have to prepare for the Locals, and, as usual it will all be last minute, eh, @TUSCoalition ? Listen - I am not just having a pop - I know how difficult it all is. 😊
But we need to think, and plan, ahead - because ALL our cohorts will be very short of dosh.
🧵
We are planning to put up 100+ candidates, and that will require £60,000.00, one way or another.
And I, personally, am putting in a plea to my Union, @unitetheunion , and the General Secretary, @UniteSharon , whom @Catheri22274003 and I played a small part in helping to elect, to follow those two fine unions and help guarantee that sum?
🧵
Having said that, each active constituency MUST NOW put in place:
1.) Their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate(PPC)
2.) Their agent
3.) Their ELECTION Treasurer
My advice on 3.) is to have a separate person from the local party treasurer.
🧵
A word about 2.) This is, for the 5 WEEKS - yes 5 - please see:
of the General Election, the hardest job that you can imagine, so ideally you will appoint/elect a person who has a best mate who WILL help. In any case, everybody should be their runners.
🧵
1.) The PPC. MUST have a SET of speeches rehearsed & prepared for hustings, & ALL local media.
2.) Must develop contacts with ALL local churches & local community groups, BUT PARTICULARLY with the #Methodists .
3.) Should set up a local bank account - this can take time ...
MY money is on next May - because that is when the Conservatives can maximise ALL their advantages.
🧵
Remember - the Labour Party has no dosh either - so are running in parallel with the #FibDems . They will be at their weakest next May too. They MAY be stronger next October, but THINK that they are ready for this October. We shall see about that.
🧵
If it is next May, as I strongly suspect, #recruitment should be your watchword. You need as many active - healthy - members as you can find. If the constituencies next door are NOT running a PPC, then you SHOULD enter formal written agreements to CO-OPT their members!
We, who long for a better life, now need to understand what has been stolen again from us, & where we actually are.
Far, far too many people still secretly hope for the Labour Party to rise again, or even more bizarrely, for a "progressive alliance" - whatever the fuck that is.
Reality needs to bite. Because the vast majority of us have done sweet fuck all in the last two years to change the terms of trade, we need to face the fact of another two terms of Tory government.
Because that is the reality, not the myth that most of us nurture.
If we want #Socialism , the mighty oak #Socialism , with #SHADEFORALL , we are going to have to grow it from the acorns that the bravest and best amongst us HAVE ALREADY created. There IS no messiah, no magic leader - that is a wastrel myth.
A thank you from Colin Gardner and #WorkersPartyGB in ward GORRELL, Canterbury, and an update:
Huge thank you to everyone who has donated thus far. 75% of our goal completed in well under a week, a magnificent show of support. (1/4)
This weekend gone the first batch of campaign material was received in Canterbury - 3,500 leaflets for residents and Colin and the team have been out speaking to residents and distributing this material.
This coming weekend 6-7 November we'll be out on the campaign trail and if you can help please get in touch for details. You can DM the WPB main twitter account, or you can email info@workerspartybritain.org (3/4)
FOA @ScouseSocialis2 , & anybody else: Every trade unionist, anti-cuts campaigner, community activist and all those who want to see an alternative to austerity politicians can become a TUSC candidate. But voters should know that any councillor elected under the TUSC banner will:
(1) Oppose all cuts and closures to council services, jobs, pay and conditions. We reject the claim that 'some cuts' are necessary to our services or that the Covid crisis is a reason for austerity.
(2) Support all workers' struggles against government policies making ordinary people pay for the crisis.
(3) Fight for united working class struggle against racism and all forms of oppression.
